The Nigeria Democratic Congress has unveiled a special concession policy on nomination and expression of interest forms for women, youths and persons living with disabilities (PWDs), describing the move as part of efforts to deepen inclusiveness and strengthen democratic participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The policy was announced in a press statement signed by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, who reaffirmed the party’s commitment to providing equal political opportunities for all Nigerians regardless of age, gender or physical condition.
According to the statement, the NDC believes that economic challenges, social barriers and physical disabilities should not prevent citizens from contributing meaningfully to nation-building through elective offices.
Enekweizu stated that women, in particular, have continued to face cultural and structural limitations that have hindered their full participation in politics and governance over the years.
He stressed that affirmative measures had become necessary to encourage greater involvement of women in the democratic process, warning that Nigeria risks short-changing itself by excluding nearly half of its population from leadership opportunities.
“To this effect, all women aspirants on the platform of the NDC are to pay 50 per cent of the advertised costs of both the Expression of Interest Forms and Nomination Forms currently on sale,” the statement noted.
The party also extended the same fifty per cent concession to aspirants between the ages of 18 and 35, while persons living with disabilities are to pay only twenty-five per cent of the approved fees.
The NDC said the initiative aligns with its founding vision of carrying every Nigerian along, including citizens living in the Diaspora, as the political space prepares for the next electoral cycle.
The statement further clarified that presidential, governorship and National Assembly forms would be obtained at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, while forms for State Houses of Assembly elections would be available at the party’s various state offices across the country.
Political observers say the development could boost the participation of underrepresented groups in the 2027 elections and intensify conversations around inclusive governance and political reforms in Nigeria.
