Fresh controversy has emerged over the conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary election for Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency, following allegations that officials assigned to conduct and collate the exercise manipulated the outcome, raising renewed concerns about the credibility of the process.
According to fresh claims reportedly backed by video evidence and ward-level voting records, the returning officer for the Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency allegedly failed to utilise the actual results obtained from the wards during the collation process, resulting in discrepancies between figures announced at the ward level and the final results declared.
In one of the videos cited by sources, the returning officer was allegedly seen bringing out a sheet of paper from his pocket containing what was described as a doctored result sheet, from which he proceeded to announce the purportedly collated results — an action critics claim constituted a clear violation of the electoral process.
The emerging evidence reportedly indicated that several wards where Hon. Nicholas Mutu was said to have secured victories were allegedly omitted or not reflected in the final results announced by the returning officer.
The affected areas were identified as Wards 1, 3, 4, 7 and 9, all of which, according to sources, have video recordings showing the announcement of results at the ward level.
Sources within the aggrieved camp identified key contacts in the affected wards as Mr. Cletus Edougha for Ward 7, Dr. Deighan Macaulay for Ward 1, Hon. William Angadi for Ward 4, Hon. Mike Seikegba for Ward 3, and Chief Fere-ere Gbe for Ward 9, all from Bomadi. They maintained that available records and video clips from the voting centres supported claims that the wards delivered votes in favour of the incumbent lawmaker.
The allegations have since triggered renewed calls by party stakeholders and supporters for an independent review of the primary election process. They are urging the APC leadership to thoroughly examine all materials related to the exercise, including the video evidence and ward documentation, to determine whether the declared results truly reflected the outcome of the primary and the mandate of APC members in the Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency.
