The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Local Government, Rural Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Aminu Muazu Maifata, has called on residents of the state and Nigerians at large to embrace the virtues of sacrifice, unity, forgiveness and selfless service as Muslims across the world celebrate Eid al-Adha.
In his Eid message issued in Lafia on Thursday, Maifata said the spiritual significance of the celebration should inspire citizens to place the collective interest of society above personal ambitions, stressing that true faith is reflected in sincerity, obedience and compassion toward others.
The commissioner said the example of Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail remains a timeless lesson in submission to the will of Allah and a reminder that genuine sacrifice goes beyond ritual offerings.
“At the heart of this season stands the example of Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail, whose obedience to Allah reminds us that true faith is measured in moments of surrender,” he stated.
According to him, “What matters is not the blood of the Qurban itself, but the inner sacrifice — the letting go of pride, greed, and selfish interest that erodes trust within families, communities, and local governments.”
He added that Nasarawa State requires a renewal of values anchored on integrity, empathy and commitment to the common good in order to sustain peace and development across the grassroots.
Maifata extended warm Eid greetings to residents across the 13 local government areas of the state, including Akwanga, Awe, Doma, Karu, Keana, Keffi, Kokona, Lafia, Nasarawa, Nasarawa Eggon, Obi, Toto and Wamba.
He prayed that the celebration would strengthen peaceful coexistence and deepen unity among the diverse ethnic and religious groups in the state.
The commissioner also commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for what he described as his administration’s “local government-friendly disposition” and ongoing infrastructural development projects across the state.
He noted that the interventions of the Sule administration were restoring confidence in governance at the grassroots level while laying the foundation for sustainable peace and prosperity.
“I also take this moment to appreciate His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi Sule, for the massive infrastructural development being delivered across every part of the state,” Maifata said.
“These interventions are restoring confidence in governance at the grassroots and creating the environment for peace and prosperity to take root.”
The commissioner further urged Muslim faithful across the country to make the Eid celebration one defined by prayer, mercy, forgiveness and service to humanity irrespective of religious or ethnic differences.
Quoting the Prophet Muhammad, he said: “None of you truly believes until you love for your brother what you love for yourself,” urging citizens to allow such values guide their conduct in communities, markets, farms and local councils.
Maifata prayed for enduring peace, justice and prosperity in Nasarawa State and Nigeria, while calling on leaders and citizens alike to uphold integrity and compassion in the discharge of their responsibilities.
“May this Eid inspire a quiet covenant across Nasarawa State — where leaders serve with integrity, citizens act with empathy, and every ward becomes a place of dignity and justice,” he added.
He also prayed for Allah to accept the sacrifices of the faithful and bless the nation with peace beyond the Eid celebration.
The commissioner concluded his message with goodwill wishes to Muslims across the state and the country, saying: “Eid Mubarak.”
