The Ogun State Police Command has rolled out massive security arrangements for the 2026 Ojude Oba Festival with the deployment of over 2,500 police personnel, Armoured Personnel Carriers and specialized tactical units across Ijebu Ode and neighbouring communities.
The Command said the proactive security operation was approved by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, to guarantee a peaceful, secure and hitch-free celebration during the internationally acclaimed cultural festival.
According to the statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the deployment comprises conventional police officers and operatives from the Police Mobile Force, Special Weapons and Tactics Unit, Violent Crime Response Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Monitoring Unit, Force Intelligence Department, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit and the Motor Traffic Department.
The statement noted that the operation also features surveillance teams, undercover operatives, rapid response squads, patrol vehicles and police motorcycles strategically stationed at the Ojude Oba Pavilion, major highways, worship centres, hotels, recreational facilities, markets, motor parks and residential areas expected to witness heavy human and vehicular movement during the festivities.
“The security deployment is aimed at ensuring effective crowd control, intelligence-led policing, traffic management, anti-crime patrols, visibility policing, early threat detection, and swift response to any security concerns before, during, and after the celebration,” the Command stated.
The police further disclosed that strategic routes such as the Sagamu Interchange, Ijebu Ode–Benin Expressway and Molipa axis would receive special operational attention to prevent criminal activities, traffic congestion and breaches of public peace.
CP Ojajuni directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Commanders to remain on maximum alert, sustain aggressive patrols and intensify stop-and-search operations throughout the festival period.
The Commissioner also instructed officers deployed for the operation to maintain professionalism, civility and respect for the rights of law-abiding citizens while carrying out their duties.
The Command said collaboration had been strengthened with traditional rulers, transport unions, event organisers and community leaders to improve intelligence gathering and ensure seamless security coordination during the celebration.
Warning criminal elements to stay away from the state, the police stressed that security agencies were fully prepared to decisively deal with any individual or group attempting to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the festival.
Residents, visitors and festival participants were urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation or through the Command’s emergency lines.
The Commissioner of Police reassured residents and visitors of the Command’s unwavering commitment to proactive policing and the protection of lives and property across Ogun State during and after the festivities.
