The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial contest in Niger South Senatorial District Zone A received a major boost following the clearance of Hon. Nma Alfa to contest for the party’s ticket, with supporters describing his candidacy as a significant opportunity to advance development and effective representation across the district.
Hon. Alfa, who has formally secured clearance to participate in the PDP senatorial race, is being projected by his supporters as a candidate equipped with the legislative experience, grassroots connection, and development-focused agenda needed to address the challenges facing communities in Zone A.
The district, which comprises Bida, Gbako, Katcha and surrounding communities, has continued to grapple with concerns over infrastructure deficits, youth unemployment, agricultural productivity and access to quality healthcare and education. According to his campaign team, Hon. Alfa intends to place these issues at the centre of his legislative priorities if elected to the National Assembly.
Supporters of the aspirant highlighted his understanding of legislative processes as one of his major strengths, arguing that effective representation goes beyond rhetoric and requires the ability to attract projects, sponsor impactful legislation and influence policies that directly benefit constituents.
“Representation is not about speeches alone, but about delivering tangible results through legislation, constituency projects and policies that improve the lives of the people,” the campaign said.
Agriculture, which remains the economic mainstay of many communities in Niger South Zone A, is expected to feature prominently in Hon. Alfa’s agenda. His supporters said he plans to advocate for improved access to modern farming inputs, irrigation facilities and structured markets to enhance agricultural productivity and increase farmers’ incomes.
The campaign further disclosed that the aspirant is committed to promoting youth empowerment and women’s economic participation through skills acquisition programmes and increased access to funding for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
Beyond economic development, Hon. Alfa has also identified infrastructure and human capital development as key areas of focus. According to his campaign team, he intends to facilitate the construction and rehabilitation of feeder roads linking farming communities to major markets while also pursuing interventions aimed at improving healthcare delivery and educational facilities across the district.
His proposed strategy includes collaboration with relevant federal agencies and development partners to attract projects to the district and ensure their timely completion.
The aspirant’s supporters also stressed his commitment to maintaining close contact with constituents through an accessible and inclusive style of representation.
They said Hon. Alfa plans to operate an open-door constituency office and hold regular town hall meetings to ensure that the concerns and aspirations of residents directly inform his legislative activities.
“Constituency feedback will remain the foundation of legislative priorities and decision-making,” the campaign stated.
The campaign also expressed confidence in the PDP platform, describing the party as one with a strong grassroots presence and national reach capable of advancing the interests of Niger South Zone A at the federal level.
According to the statement, Hon. Alfa intends to work collaboratively with lawmakers across party lines to ensure the district secures adequate attention in national development programmes and federal budget allocations.
As political activities gather momentum ahead of the elections, supporters of the PDP aspirant have called on residents of Niger South Zone A to rally behind his candidacy, expressing confidence that his leadership would deliver integrity, effective representation and measurable development outcomes for the district.
The campaign concluded that the forthcoming election presents an opportunity for the people of Zone A to shape the future of their communities and create new opportunities for economic growth and social progress.
