The leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has stepped into efforts to resolve internal disagreements involving the influential Kwankwasiya movement and legacy party officials in Kano State, reaffirming its commitment to internal democracy and inclusive participation across the country.
This followed a high-level closed-door meeting held on Monday night between a delegation of the national leadership of the Kwankwasiya movement, the National Leader of the NDC, , and other senior party officials.
According to a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the NDC, Osa Director Esq., the meeting was convened to address concerns arising from the relationship between the Kwankwasiya movement and legacy NDC officials in Kano State.
The statement said the discussions formed part of ongoing efforts by the party’s national leadership to strengthen unity and ensure that all stakeholders are adequately represented in the party’s structures and decision-making processes.
“The closed-door meeting was aimed at resolving the issues between the Kwankwasiya movement and the legacy officials of NDC in Kano State,” the statement noted.
The party disclosed that Senator Dickson and the NDC leadership are actively mediating in the matter to promote inclusion and guarantee broad participation by members at all levels.
In a move likely to reassure party faithful ahead of forthcoming political activities, the NDC leadership reiterated its opposition to the imposition of candidates, stressing that democratic principles would guide the emergence of party flagbearers in Kano State and across the federation.
“The NDC leadership will not impose candidates in Kano State, and indeed across the nation as the party cherishes the virtues of internal democracy,” the statement emphasized.
Party officials described the meeting as productive, noting that discussions lasted several hours and yielded positive outcomes toward strengthening cohesion within the party.
The development comes amid growing interest in the NDC’s internal political processes as the party continues consultations and organizational activities across the country.
Meanwhile, the party has cautioned members and the general public against relying on unofficial reports regarding its primary elections.
According to the statement, no official results have been released from any NDC primary election in any state of the federation.
“The NDC has not released any official results of its primary elections in any state. Hence, the public and party members are urged to disregard any such list in circulation,” the statement said.
Political observers believe the intervention by the party’s national leadership reflects a broader effort to consolidate internal unity and prevent factional disputes ahead of future electoral contests, while reinforcing confidence in the party’s commitment to transparency and democratic practices.
