ASABA, DELTA STATE – Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has been named the 2026 Media Icon of the Year by the Board of Management of the Delta Icons of Goodwill Awards (DIGA) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to public communication, transparent governance, and rural infrastructure development.
The prestigious honour, according to the organisers, celebrates Aniagwu’s exceptional ability to combine effective government communication with the delivery of critical infrastructure projects, making him one of the state’s most influential public officials.
Announcing the award, Co-founder of the Delta Icons of Goodwill Awards, Mr. Onajite Malcolm Tagbarah, described Aniagwu as a rare public servant who has successfully balanced the demanding responsibilities of overseeing rural road development while serving as the official voice of the Delta State Government.
Tagbarah noted that Aniagwu’s professional background in journalism and media has equipped him with the expertise to communicate government policies clearly, promote transparency, deepen public engagement, and strengthen accountability in governance.
He said the commissioner has effectively complemented his communication role with tangible infrastructural achievements through the implementation of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, particularly in expanding and improving rural road networks across the state.
According to the award organisers, Aniagwu has played a pivotal role in strengthening public confidence in government by consistently explaining policies and programmes in a clear and accessible manner while simultaneously supervising the construction of strategic rural roads that improve connectivity and economic activities.
Describing his unique leadership style, the organisers referred to Aniagwu as “the voice that builds and the builder who speaks,” noting that he has demonstrated that true infrastructure development extends beyond roads and bridges to include building trust, confidence, and meaningful relationships between government and the people.
They further observed that whether inspecting projects across Delta State’s 25 local government areas or addressing journalists on government policies and programmes, the commissioner has consistently championed transparency, accountability, and people-centred governance.
According to the Board, Aniagwu’s performance reflects the principle that effective governance should not only be measured by completed physical projects but also by how effectively government communicates its vision, earns public trust, and fulfils its promises.
The Board of Management of the Delta Icons of Goodwill Awards announced that Aniagwu will formally receive the 2026 Media Icon of the Year Award during the awards ceremony scheduled for July 26, 2026, at the Times Event Center, Sapele, Delta State.
The organisers said the recognition honours Aniagwu’s enduring impact on public communication, his commitment to rural infrastructure development, and his contributions to advancing the Oborevwori administration’s MORE Agenda through effective public engagement and responsive leadership.
