OSOGBO, OSUN STATE — The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State Chapter, has welcomed the commencement of the Osogbo Road Construction Project, describing it as a major infrastructure intervention that reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to accelerating development in Osun State under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The association also announced the commencement of a statewide mobilisation campaign across the state’s 30 local government areas and one area office in support of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
In a press statement issued by the State ALGON Chair, Hon. Abiodun Idowu, after the flag-off ceremony, the ALGON Osun State Chapter commended President Tinubu for facilitating the commencement of the road project, which it noted was originally awarded in 2021 during the administration of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola but was subsequently delayed.
The association described the activation of the project as a significant milestone capable of improving transportation, boosting commercial activities and stimulating economic growth within Osogbo and adjoining communities.
“We urge the good people of Osogbo and indeed all of Osun to embrace this gesture from the Federal Government. There is no going back. The road is a lifeline for commerce, movement and economic prosperity,” the statement said.
ALGON also commended the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, for what it described as his commitment to the Federal Government’s nationwide infrastructure renewal programme.
The association further acknowledged the support of the Ataoja of Osogbo, members of the National Assembly and other APC stakeholders for their roles in facilitating the commencement of the project.
According to the body, the road project demonstrates the benefits of collaboration between the Federal Government and local government authorities, adding that sustained cooperation would accelerate development across Osun State.
The association expressed the view that the project reinforces Osun State’s strategic importance in national development and underscores the potential benefits of stronger alignment between federal and local governance structures.
Beyond infrastructure, ALGON disclosed that it has intensified grassroots mobilisation across all the 30 local government areas and the state’s area office in preparation for the forthcoming governorship election.
The association called on residents to participate peacefully in the electoral process while urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure a credible, free and fair election.
It maintained that the electorate is increasingly demanding practical governance focused on infrastructure development, healthcare improvement, employment generation and prudent management of public resources.
“Come August 15, it is a date with our destiny. We will continue to mobilise our youths, women, market leaders, traditional rulers, members of the National Assembly, faith-based organisations and the good people of Osun,” the statement said.
ALGON reaffirmed its support for the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, stating that the chairmen of the 30 local government councils are united in their commitment to supporting what they described as a development-driven agenda for the state.
The association stressed the need for greater investment in road infrastructure, healthcare delivery, job creation and other projects capable of directly improving the living conditions of residents, arguing that local governments should remain central to the implementation of people-oriented development programmes.
