The Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has commiserated with the people of Zurmi Emirate in Zamfara State and Gumel Emirate in Jigawa State over the death of their respective traditional rulers.
Obi expressed his condolences in a message shared on his X handle, describing the deaths of His Royal Highness, Alhaji Bello Sulaiman, Sarkin Zamfara, Zurmi, and His Royal Highness, Emir Ahmed Sani II, Emir of Gumel, as significant losses to their respective emirates and Nigeria.
He said the two traditional rulers, as custodians of culture, history and traditions, played important roles in preserving the identity of their people while promoting peace, unity and social harmony.
“I offer my heartfelt sympathies to the people of Zurmi Emirate in Zamfara State and the people of Gumel Emirate in Jigawa State regarding the demise of two esteemed traditional leaders: His Royal Highness, Alhaji Bello Sulaiman, Sarkin Zamfara, Zurmi, and His Royal Highness, Emir Ahmed Sani II, Emir of Gumel, who passed away in Egypt,” Obi said.
According to him, their passing represents considerable losses not only to their immediate communities but also to the nation.
“Their deaths mark considerable losses to their respective emirates and to Nigeria. As custodians of our culture, history, and traditions, the Royal Fathers played vital roles in safeguarding the identity of their people and fostering peace, unity, and social harmony,” he added.
Obi extended his sympathies to the bereaved families, the traditional institutions and the people of both emirates, urging them to draw strength during the difficult period.
“I sincerely sympathise with their families, the traditional institutions, and the people of Zurmi and Gumel Emirates during this challenging time,” he said.
He prayed for the souls of the departed traditional rulers, asking Almighty Allah to forgive their shortcomings and grant them Aljannatul Firdaus, while granting their families and subjects the strength and resilience to bear the losses.
