A group of women in Abuja who go by the name NudeNaija have taken to the streets in a peaceful protest to demand the release of the student visa of a Chibok girl who started university in the United States of America, USA, but has not been able to complete her studies owing to the non-release of her visa.
The development has led to her return to Nigeria, where she has remained in uncertainty.
The Convener of NudeNaija, Princess Mikky, disclosed that one of the Chibok girls, Grace Dauda, who was later released by her captors, was taken to America where she started undergraduate studies.
But when her visa started running out, she returned to Nigeria to renew it.
However, the American Embassy in Nigeria has repeatedly denied her the renewal of her student visa, leading to her remaining in limbo and uncertainty in Nigeria.
Grace Dauda has been living in Lagos without knowing the way forward.
Princess Mikky says the way forward for her is to get back to complete her education before anything else.
The courses remaining for Grace to obtain her degree are practical courses for which she must be physically present at her campus in the United States.
The group, NudeNaija, is giving the United States Embassy fourteen days to release this Chibok girl’s visa, or the next time they take to the streets, the women will go nude in protest.
The protesters called for the video of the protest to be shared widely so that it gets to President Donald Trump.
“That girl is one of the Chibok girls and she deserves to get her life back,” the group said.
