The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has rejected the All Progressives Congress primaries held in Edo State last Saturday, February 17, 2024, and has ordered a fresh election in the state.
This is as indications emerged that the President is dissatisfied with the outcome of the primary elections, which produced two to three candidates he feels cannot bring victory to the party considering the State’s dynamics.
The President, who has instructed party faithful to ignore politicians in the state using his name to endorse selected candidates, emphasizes that the party, via its National Working Committee (NWC) and the chairman, must produce candidates capable of securing a landslide victory in the elections.
This is coming as indications emerged that President Tinubu has rejected thHon. Dennis Idahosa and Senator Monday Okpebholo’s Candidacy source reveals that sthere will be a reshuffling in the new primaries, proposed to be held on Thursday, February 22, 2024.
It’s
likely that the three declared winners may not make the list, as they have demonstrated an inability to peacefully secure victory for the party in the upcoming September 2024 elections.
Insiders said that Edo State election, known for its complexity, requires strong candidates able to garner mass appeal.
As such, it is anticipated that a different candidate will emerge to represent the APC in the upcoming election.
