Nigeria’s Federal Government on Thursday outlined programmes scheduled for the celebration of 2022 Democracy Day on June 12.
Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed announced the programme of events to mark the day at a press briefing held in Abuja.
Intimating Nigerians of how President Muhammadu Buhari administration plans to celebrate the 2022 event, Alhaji Lai Mohammed highlighted the importance of the programme, stressing that itโs designed to honour the people who paid the supreme price in the struggle for democracy in Nigeria.
โIn compliance with the presidential directive, Democracy Day has been celebrated annually on June 12.
โThis yearโs celebration will mark the fourth time that the Day will be marked on June 12, following celebrations in 2019, 2020 and 2021โ, he said.
According to him, following extensive work by an inter-ministerial committee on the scheduled event, โThis Press Conference officially kickstarts the programme of activities and a public lecture is scheduled to hold tomorrow, Friday 10th June, at the National Mosque here in Abuja at 9 am.
โThis will be followed, on the same day and the same venue, by a Jumaโat Service at noon.
โOn Sunday, June 12, there will be a presidential broadcast in the morning. And also a Church Service at the National Christian Centre at 3pm.
โThen on Monday, June 13th, a Ceremonial Parade will be held at the Eagle Square starting from 9amโ, insisting that the scheduled events were strictly on invitation.
The Minister while responding to questions from newsmen added that security arrangements were already in place to ensure a hitch free 2022 Democracy Day celebration.
