Results from Nigeria’s governorship election, Senator Aisha Jummai Al-Hassan may have made history by becoming the first Nigerian woman to be elected a State Governor.
As Nigerians await official results of the polls, reports from Taraba State show Jumai, the first female governorship candidate from northern Nigeria, may have won yesterday’s election.
She ran on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Aisha Jummai Al-Hassan was elected Senator for the Taraba North constituency of Taraba State in the April 2011 Federal elections.
She ran on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform but later defected to APC.
Though INEC is yet to officially announce her winner, Nigerians are already celebrating Aisha Jummai Al-Hassan’s feat on social media.
