Nnamdi Kanu: Over 8 Million Pro-Biafran Activists In Massive Protests, Demand Kanu’s Release

Amid threats and intimidation by security agencies, including the military and the Police, over 8 million pro-Biafran activists under the aegis of the Indigenous People of Biafra have continued to deman the immediate release of their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS), agents of the Nigerian Government.

The IPOB members in the last two days have been protesting at several locations in the South East, South-South and parts of North Central states, particularly Kogi State.

The massive protesters have matched in Agbor, Asaba, Onitsha, Enugu, Aba, Owerri, Port Harcourt, Bayelsa, among other locations.

The Biafran protest continued for the second day on November 7, 2015, demanding for the immediate and unconditional release of the incarcerated  leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Kanu is being held on the orders of the President Muhammadu Buhari.

The IPOB alleges that even after a court has granted Nnamdi Kanu bail and the stringent bail conditions met, the Federal Government of Nigeria have continued to keep him in custody.

The activists also allege that the Nigerian government have denied the detained IPOB leader access to his lawyers and medical care.

On November 6, the journey by the protesters, which started from Agbor, continued Saturday morning from Asaba tollgate about to Onitsha, through Ogidi, Nkpor, Abagana and headed to Awka and Enugu, covering several kilometers.

ipob_bayelsa23As security agents battle the unarmed protesters in the three regions, the IPOB members have vowed to continue the protest until their leader was freed.

There were reports of shooting by armed security personnel, with some protesters sustaining gun injuries as the army and the police allegedly fired live ammunition at the peaceful protesters.

In Aba the protest has gathered momentum on the second day as soldiers who have been parading the streets intimidating locals  have retreated following massive crowd streaming out in their numbers into the streets asking for the restoration of an independent state of Biafra.

Some of the IPOB members who called in during a 24  hours live broadcast on Radio Biafra have vowed not to retreat, even as over 900 protesters have been so far arrested by the armed forces.

In Yenagoa, there reports indicating that the Bayelsa State Police Command Friday arrested 83 members of the Biafra Movement IPOB during their “One Million Man March”.

Those arrested comprised 78 males and 5 females who carried and unfurled Biafra flags as they marched peacefully demanding the release of detained Radio Biafra director, Nnamdi Kanu.

The Bayelsa State Police Command spokesman Anisim Butswat said the people were arrested during a flag-raising ceremony of the Biafra Movement on the Mbiama-Yenagoa road “because they want to foment troubles and unleash mayhem”.

“Those arrested are at the criminal Investigation Department, CID for Investigations and interrogations,” he said.

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned the All Progressives Congress and President Muhammadu Buhari to exercise restraint in hounding into detention the peaceful protesters, urging him to urgently dialogue with representatives of the Indegenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the parliament on how to address the demands of the IPOB members.
