Yunusa To Work Alongside Pat Utomi Ahead Of 2027 Elections
Under new arrangement, Yunusa has been appointed Co-Chairman, North, of NCFront Steering Committee, working alongside Prof. Pat Utomi, Chairman of the Front, who represents southern region.
“Former Obidient Movement coordinator to work alongside Pat Utomi ahead of 2027 elections,” NCFront stated.
The appointment, which Yunusa has accepted, is aimed at strengthening coalition’s organisational structure and expanding its mobilisation of civil society organisations, democratic activists and grassroots communities in push for credible, popular and participatory elections in 2027.
NCFront said decision was informed by Yunusa’s longstanding democratic credentials, extensive experience in political mobilisation and contributions to Nigeria’s pro-democracy movement.
Veteran Activist Tasked With Mobilising Civil Society, Grassroots For Credible Polls
Yunusa, a veteran activist, former presidential candidate and former National Chairman of defunct National Conscience Party, NCP, previously served as spokesperson for NCFront before being deployed by coalition’s leadership in 2022 to serve as Chief Spokesperson of Peter Obi’s presidential campaign.
That deployment followed appeal by leaders of NCFront to Prof. Pat Utomi to step down in favour of Obi during Labour Party’s presidential primary election held in Asaba, Delta State, on June 1, 2022.
According to NCFront, Yunusa’s return to coalition’s leadership reflects importance of consolidating democratic forces and mobilising citizens for credible elections as country approaches 2027 general polls.
In his new capacity, Yunusa is expected to take charge of Front’s mobilisation efforts, particularly coordination of civil society participation and grassroots engagement across country. His assignment will focus on strengthening citizens’ involvement in electoral process and advancing coalition’s campaign for credible elections.
