NDE Disburses N2m to 200 Beneficiaries in Oyo

The National Directorate of Employment, NDE, has disbursed the sum of N2 million to 200 beneficiaries under her Micro Enterprise Enhancement Scheme, MEES.

This is in-line with the Directorate mandate of generating employment for the unemployed populace and wealth creation drive of the present administration.

Speaking at the disbursement ceremony held at Aseyin Palace, Iseyin Oyo State, the Oyo State NDE State Coordinator, Mrs Olayinka Olayemi, noted that the empowerment scheme was part of the Federal Government’s laudable programmes across the country being implemented by the directorate under the able leadership of the Director General, Dr. Nasiru Ladan. She explained that MEES specifically was designed to help women start-up and expand their own businesses, thereby contributing to economic growth and poverty reduction.

She pointed out that NDE is doing all it can to reduce the high unemployment rate and kick start micro economic activities with laudable initiatives so as to bring the economy back on track as well as to cushion the effect of COVID-19 pandemic on the country’s economy.

“Today, the Federal Government, through NDE is taking another bold step by empowering 200 beneficiaries in Oyo State. Each of them will get the sum of N10, 000 from tax payer money as financial backing to start up a micro business of their choice or expand on the existing one”.

The state coordinator also noted that over 2000 women in the state had earlier benefited from the scheme since it commenced in December 2019, adding that they all have amazing testimonies to share.

Olayemi also thanked Hon. Shina Peller, the Lawmaker, representing Iseyin, Itesiwaju, Iwajowa and Kajola Federal Constituency of Oyo State, for his immense support towards librating his people from poverty.

Also speaking, Comrade Kola Bello, who represented Hon. Shina Peller, at the event urged the beneficiaries to think outside the box and unleash their full potentials rather than searching for limited white collar job. He assured them that MEES will provide an opportunity for them to set up enduring businesses that will boost the country’s economy. He also said that the lawmaker was ready to sponsor one thousand (1,000) beneficiaries of the scheme.

Similarly, the APC chairman, Iseyin Local Government, Mr. Anthony Ogunleke, commended Oyo NDE for bringing the scheme to them, and advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the rare opportunity while the APC leader Iseyi L.G.A, Eyiade Alobo, urged the beneficiaries to imbibe the culture of hard-work, dedication & prudence in their various endeavours.

The Head of Department Small Scale Enterprise (SSE) Mrs. Oluwatoyin Ayelagbe, while educating the beneficiaries on how to run efficiently small businesses noted it takes courage, determination and foresight to become successful in life. . She therefore urged the beneficiaries to ensure effective utilization of the fund by investing wisely on micro businesses that will yield good return and add value to their lives.
