Ifediche Message Takes Over Anambra as Johnbosco Onunkwo Declares for Governorship
Friday, January 22, 2021, would go down in the history of Anambra State as a day when the state capital, Awka was shaken to the roots as Engr Johnbosco Onunkwo (Akaekpuchionwa Umuchu) declared his intention to contest the governorship election of Anambra State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He made the declaration in the presence of party stakeholders and members of the State Working Committee (SWC) led by the chairman, Chief Basil Ejidike.
The event started at exactly 12noon at the Johnbosco Onunkwo Foundation office where party men and women from 21 local government areas had gathered to identify with their iconic servant leader, Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo.
During his speech, Engr Onunkwo thanked the members of the local government executives, ward executives under GOGAN and IFEDICHE AMBASSADORS and other stakeholders for answering his call and finding time to be there.
He reminded them that he has been in the party since 2008 when it was known as Action Congress (AC), then to Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to the present APC.
In all these years, he said, he has always identified with the party at the various ward levels to the local government levels, the state level and of course the national level.
Having been around for long, he said, he has identified the problems bedeviling the party mostly during elections in Anambra State and has been working assiduously to ensure the success of the party in the forthcoming November 6th, 2021 gubernatorial election.
He also reminded all present of his capacity as the Grand Patron of Ohanaeze Youth and Grand Commander of All Youths in Anambra State.
Chief Onunkwo also reiterated that his contributions at the grassroot towards the growth of the party is second to none.
“In 2017, we tested the microphone, in this 2021 we are marching to the Government House. Johnbosco Onunkwo is a movement, Johnbosco Onunkwo is a revolution.
«Our suffering will end. We are the answer to PDP, we are the answer to APGA. I came prepared,” he said.
“We have agricultural emancipation, we have social educational programme. We have medicare. My foundation has carried out these programmes, how much more when we are voted in to manage the resources of the state.
“It’s time to liberate us. The time has come for a servant to enter the Government House. If I enter Government House, all of us will be liberated. I enter into a covenant with you,” he emphasized.
Cheers from the jubilant crowd reverberated in the whole vicinity as he evocatively rendered his declaration.
In addition, Ifediche Anambra asked for the support of the stakeholders to fly the party’s flag at the polls to ensure victory for the party and transformation of Anambra State for the better.
A tumultuous crowd comprising thousands of men, women and youths marched with Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo to the APC State Secretariat, Glass House, along Zik’s Avenue, Awka.
The march which held the Anambra State capital of Awka to a standstill for 2 hours shook the whole town to the roots as some motorists, Keke riders, passengers and other road users joined in jubilant march to the Glass House for the formal declaration.
Various speakers at the event eulogized Engr Johnbosco Onunkwo for the myriads of support he has been giving to all and sundry noting that he has immense capacity to unify the party and make it stronger and more appealing to the electorate.
Receiving the governorship aspirant, the party’s State Chairman, Chief Basil Ejidike congratulated him for taking the bold step. He commended him for his unflinching contributions and massive support to the growth and betterment of the party.
He assured him of free and fair conduct of the primaries. Chief Ejidike also extolled Engr. Onunkwo as being among the best candidates of the party and, of course, one of the decision makers. He asked for more “Ifediche” in the party and in the life of the members.
The South East Zonal Youth Leader of APC, Chief Olisa Onyeka (Odu Ogidi) commended Engr. Onunkwo for his sagacity and unrelenting love for the party.
He said that Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo has been a formidable force to reckon with, both in APC and the entire Anambra.
He remarked that he was surprised at the degree which Engr Onunkwo shook the city of Awka with his declaration. And that for the first time, he was very happy to see an aspirant in APC enjoying massive support and followership.
In his remarks, the State Youth Leader of Anambra APC, Chief Augustine Muomaife praised Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo for his record-breaking antecedents and noted succinctly stated that Engr. Onunkwo has suffered for the party.
He said that the youths had come to take over the mantle of leadership and that the time for the taking over has come. He asked Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo to keep up his good works and leave no stone unturned in his efforts to make Anambra State a better place.
Highlight of the event was the moment Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo donated a bus to the party. Echoes of Ifediche! rented the air from the thronging crowd present when the key to the bus was handed over to the party’s chairman.
