There is palpable tension in Nigeria‘s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, as yet to be identified armed bandits, suspected to be bandits, stormed the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) and took away some staff of the federal academic institution.
While security agencies are on the trail of the bandits, details of the operation by the armed gang is still sketchy as at press time.
But The Street Reporters Newspaper gathered that the incident happened in the wee hours of Tuesday.
According to residents of the university community, sporadic gunshots started at 12:14am before some members staff were whisked away by the bandits.
The number of staff abducted from the university was not also confirmed by UNIABUJA which has confirmed the development.
“Suspected bandits attacked the staff quarters of the University in the early hours of today.
“Our Safety officers, in conjunction with security personnel, mobilised to secure the quarters.
“We have report that four of our staff and their children were, nevertheless, abducted by the evil men”, the university said in a statement.
UNIABUJA added that “Efforts are being made to ensure their safe return.
“A sad day for us, indeed,” a statement by University authorities read.
