The Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. Ferdinand Ukwueze, has conveyed a message of profound appreciation and solidarity to the administration of His Excellency, Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Governor of Enugu State, and wishes Ndi Enugu a happy 66th Independence anniversary.

Hon. Ukwueze, speaking on behalf of the newly elected 17 Local Government Chairmen, lauded the Governor for the execution of the Enugu State 2026 Budget of Renewed Momentum, totaling about N1.62 trillion with about 80 percent earmarked for capital expenditure.

He described the budget as a clear statement of intent, with its 66.5 percent growth over the 2025 figure, its heavy 32.27 percent allocation to education, and its decisive tilt towards economic and social sectors, as proof that the administration is building from the grassroots and strengthening the weakest link through Smart Green Schools, Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres and rural infrastructure.

In the spirit of the Governor’s charge that there will be no honeymoon for any elected chairman, the Chairmen, he said, have resolved to entrench transparency, accountability and measurable service delivery.

He recalled that the mandate entrusted to the 17 chairmen is held on trust and that it represents a subset of dexterity and public confidence.

Posterity, he noted, is again set to judge performance, and having completed a campaign tour across the 17 local government areas with resilience and the overwhelming support of the people, the newly sworn-in era presents a veritable opportunity to make constituents feel the import of the last mile of governance by delivering on the campaign manifestos.

The task ahead, he stressed, is a call for collective responsibility built on trust and the sustainable delivery of high impact projects that directly touch lives.

Hon. Ukwueze pledged that the councils will take a cue from Governor Mbah’s rich depth and grasp of developmental logic to ramp up rural governance with inclusivity for all, noting that the 17 LGAs remain key components and ready-made vehicles to cascade the vision of His Excellency, grow domestic revenue through Internally Generated Revenue and provide ease of doing business in rural communities.

For the chairmen, he said, this is an era of consolidating the entire governance ecosystem in sync with the huge expectations of the people, having collated a robust needs assessment of communities.

Reflecting on his first term in Igbo-Eze South, the Chairman cited the rehabilitation and grading of rural roads to connect farming clusters, rehabilitation of water facilities and extension to underserved wards, sustained support for security architecture and community safety, complementary interventions in education to keep children in classrooms, skills development and digital empowerment for youths, support for sports and environmental sanitation, improved access to primary healthcare and extension services for agriculture, as foundational blocks upon which the second term will build with deeper youth enterprise, technology and entrepreneurship focus.

He expressed deep appreciation to members of the State Executive Council, the Secretary to the State Government Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the Chief of Staff Chief Victor Udeh, traditional rulers across the state, the vibrant youths, town unions, Presidents-General and women groups for their steadfast support, and also saluted the leadership of the All Progressives Congress in the state and the Chairman of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, Prof. Christian Ngwu and his team, for a credible and peaceful electoral process.

He concluded by reaffirming loyalty to the people of Igbo-Eze South and to the transformation agenda of Governor Mbah, assuring Ndi Enugu that the second term will be marked by more listening, more work and more results that endure, and wishing all a peaceful and purposeful 66th Independence anniversary.
