Despite seeming challenges, Nigeria remains a great country. These were the words of H.E Amb Ibok Ekwe Ibas, the Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana during the 2022 Nigerians In Ghana Youth And Business Summit held at the ultramodern Mikaddo Event Center Accra over the weekend.
The calm, humble and hardworking Diplomat expressed great optimism that despite what the country is going through, it would rise to become the light of the world.
The event which attracted great personalities like H.E Charles Abani, the United Nations Resident Coordinator for Ghana, DCOP Dennis Abade, Greater Accra Deputy Regional Police Commander who represented the Inspector General of Police, top officials from relevant institutions like the Customs, Prisons, Immigration, International Organization for Immigration (IOM) and many other important bodies had its theme as Pathways To Accelerate Profitable Diaspora Transnational Engagement.
The number one Nigerian citizen in Ghana commended all that came for the event and hoped that this initiative would help in positively projecting the good image of Nigeria in Ghana. Amb. Ibok recounted great achievements of Nigerians in the Diaspora.
He urged the media to help in championing a positive narrative for Nigeria as there is more good news related to Nigeria than negatives.
It is on record that in the history of Nigerian High Commission in Ghana, this would be the first time the Embassy would be collaborating with a pro Nigerian group to organize an event that offered a platform for Nigerians from all walks of life to share their challenges and get answers on the spot.
Issues relating to passport renewal were attended to and AIhaji Aliyu Manufashi, the top Immigration official, assured that they would keep doing their best to meet the high demands of passports from Nigerians in Ghana. H.E Gambo Hamza urged the prison officials to update them on the numbers of Nigerian prisoners in the prisons across the country.
Comrade Barry Ndu, the President of Rebrand Nigeria in Ghana Organization (RNIGO), the foremost and most consistent Nigeria group in Ghana commended the High Commissioner and the entire Embassy staff for the support and collaboration to put up such a global event.
He assured that his team would remain a willing vehicle to keep pushing ideas that promote Nigeria as their passion for a better country is borne out of a desire to see Nigeria rise to where it truly belongs.
He appreciated all those who have continuously made Nigeria proud and assured that posterity would never forget them.
Mrs Esther Arewa, Minister at the Embassy hoped for a more fruitful collaboration in the future.
She appreciated all those who attended and urged them to send a message to those who couldn’t make it that Nigeria would rise again.
All the security institutions that participated in the round table discussion used the opportunity of the event to answer several questions that border on the need for a peaceful coexistence between Ghana and Nigeria.
Mrs Abike Dabiri Erewa, the CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) who couldn’t make it to the event sent in a recorded video appreciating the laudable initiative and assured that the Government of Nigeria is fully in support and would be ready at all times to partner the organisers.
Banks, Nigerian Students, Nigerian women Association, Young Entrepreneurs, Nollywood Ghana and many other different groups attended the colorful event. They all appreciated the organizers and the Embassy noting that its a new dawn for Nigeria in Ghana.
