Prince Bassey Otu Of APC, Must Decide On A Deputy That Would Enhance His Winning Chances As The Clock Ticks
“Man’s Heart Is Evil, Do Not Trust Man, Says The Holy Scriptures. But The Lord Sure, Stands With Its Own”.
CONTINUED FROM PART 1
I started the media war against the injustices being meted on the old members of our party of which I am one, by the dominance of those new members who defected with the current Governor from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to join us in the All Progressives Congress, APC, acting as a block and were able to remain unrelenting in their attempt to take over the control of ninety percent of the party executive committee positions from wards to the state level and were determined to have the governorship position given also to one of them in the process as the height of their insensitivity. This is where the protracted disagreement we have in the party today ensued.
My campaign to project Senator Prince Bassey Otu as the best candidate in the light of the zoning arrangements tagged “Back to South” of our great party, APC, in Cross River State, by the current Governor as one equipped with all it takes to succeed the outgoing Governor became reinforced with a series of articles and analyses on the social media to point out these shenanigans and tempestuousness.
There weren’t any pressure groups anywhere in defense of Prince Otu’s candidacy, as most of those who were rooting for him had taken up appointments with the current government and were unable to say anything contrary. And I did maintain the tempo of the media campaign till he emerged as the party’s candidate.
Then everybody who read my articles on different social media platforms as they still do to date, admired and applauded the unrelated positions I took in the defense of our candidate, Prince Bassey Otu as an old member of APC.
Those who followed up on my numerous essays commended my steadfastness and clear-headed commitment to insist on what I believed in.
I spoke the truth to the system. Using languages that invoked conviviality even when I have so badly been treated by the current government as if I am not a member of the APC at all. But I throttle on, unperturbed.
I have nothing to lose or gain in the process. I have been living without government patronage for over seven years of the current government.
All I want to see as a politician in my party is for our people to have a new lease of life with the coming of Prince Otu as the next Governor. That’s all. I am a consummate professional and a Christ Devotee.
I know what I want in life. To live for the benefit of people who cherish your endeavour, is the best life to live each time one is privilege to be on earth.
My values are restricted which is why I don’t show desperation over what I can’t get within my competence and endeavors, I wait.
You do good, you do that to yourself. If one decides to perpetrate evil, that becomes his nemesis, for me, I am working on my incarnation.
Whoever says I do not matter now amongst the political appointees from the new members and those who supported other aspirants of their choices because Prince Otu has now emerged the party’s candidate, is barely shooting themselves on the foot, displaying treachery, and has not been told what happens to those who did similar things to me in circumstances such as this and how it ended up with them.
I do not insist on strict compliance to an agreement on paper or remuneration over the struggle to take power for the benefit of the children whenever I am privileged to join in one especially when the person involved in the leadership position displays competence, obsequiousness like prince Otu, enough exposure, intelligence, and had endeared himself to me and shows venerable love and appreciation over what he knows my involvement can do in the areas of my professional competence and ingenuity concealed, in our collective strive to conquer, I go all out for it without hesitation.
That is what makes me do what I do to enhance such a course solely on trust because of friendship and willingness to interpret the will of the Lord in the matter, based on my conviction in the project and my willingness to challenge falsehood associated therein, to see to its success.
Good luck to anyone who does not see me as playing the role of Director of Media, Publicity, and Propaganda for Prince Otu’s campaign then or now, matters less to me at this point.
Prince Otu and I are friends with an eye on a common denominator, being the change our people so desire which is eminent and within reach, if properly planned and executed over good intentions.
What we need now and what I want to see happen to justify all our efforts as members of Prince Otu’s team from inception is to see that we win the election to the government house in Calabar, otherwise, all our efforts and internal fighting for roles to play within would have been in vain.
Never have I sat with Prince to discuss the rejection of anybody of those who is for or against him amongst our party members. I only sue for peace and understanding to bring everyone on board the best I can where my attention is needed.
Agreed that demons have been invited or imported to invade the camp of Prince Otu, in later days to bring in confusion but that is not enough to cause someone like me to back out of a vision I saw from time as the Lord inspired.
It will make no sense to me only when I see that well-thought-out ideas capable of giving us victory are deliberately ignored then shall I re-strategize.
Not until then, no stranger under whatever guise man or sentient fraudsters shall make me lose focus on what is being viewed purely as a mission to give our people of the state, a new lease of life with Prince Otu’s candidacy.
I think at this point, our party’s candidate, Prince Bassey Otu should seize the initiative to decide as others do, on who becomes his running mate of someone competent in bringing something tangible to the table, not those showcasing performances recorded in their official capacity as government functionaries.
In this particular case, he must choose from those who contested the primary elections with him because, in them, there was the determination to do all in their powers to become Governor in their rights and weighed capacity.
That’s the same spirit they’re going to bring to bear on the campaigns. And not some persons pick for purposes of meeting up certain personal interest out of which no other advantages is procured.
In the case of failure, those who have a fallback position feel no pain. Otu is the person to Govern in the situation where the party wins the election, and would be in a good position to determine who will compliment him. First, during the election and while in office as Governor if we are victorious.
However the one chosen must display the capacity to go into the contest properly armed with a winning strategy and the ability to attract votes based on his individuality.
I suggest that Prince Otu should choose either Senator John Owan Enoh who at this time would be persuaded to drop whatever he has in court against Prince Otu, or Chief Chris Agara both of who are from the Central Senatorial District of the state as his running mate, otherwise, we may lose the election to our rival PDP or a side that prepares well.
The incumbent factor is beginning to wane. We must be circumspect in our aggregation of what would serve the overall interest that will not do us any good, going forward.
For example, in the recently concluded Osun state election, the incumbent APC governor was defeated and President Buhari had long congratulated the PDP candidate Senator Adeleke that won.
That tells us that President Mohammadu Buhari is not ready to interfere in any elections results and the best side to the contest should win. We must see to it that differences are dropped for peace to surfaced.
Those who came over from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, with the governor to join us old members in the APC would have nothing to lose if the party loses because they have enjoyed the government fairly well, the Governor has been so magnanimous to them, and they’ve enjoyed the latitudes of the dividend of that Government for well over seven years of a none stop appointment. It is the old members myself inclusive who would be at the loss in this case.
Except either of these two men, Chief Agara and Senator Owan Enoh declined the offer of becoming running mate, in which case they will pledge to be fully involved in the entire campaign activities deploying all they have to effectively cover the central senatorial district using both their resources and structures. Any others persons claiming to do better than these two heavyweights in the center are telling lies.
If they could, they would have fought to get into the race for the governorship which was opened to all those who felt competent and had what it takes to go into the race to win.
The party cannot afford to ignore these two party’s big fish at the center and hope to make a good showing at the District as it were.
Nor does it make any political sense to ignore the entire Central Senatorial District in the equation and expect to make a meaningful impact in the center in the overall election.
The north is already filled up with too many party heavyweights, let them deliver the North for Prince Otu. I say so as an Oracle.
Majority of the members of our great party, the All Progressives Congress in cross river state have agreed to have the running mate to the party’s candidate, Prince Bassey Otu, come from the Central Senatorial District to create the necessary balance in power to diffusion tension and to give the central senatorial district a sense of belonging and that of purpose.
In politics there shouldn’t be permanent enemies, of those who differ from you. But permanent enemy against wrong ideas and parochial decisions born out of sentiments, nepotism, or greed. When we go for the best and take the right decision in the course of that, we know that’s the Lord’s doings. Such, are often strange and stupid in man’s eyes but workable over time.
