Panic As Unknown Gunmen Target Soldiers in South East, Kill 7

The killing of seven soldiers of the Nigerian Army in the South East on Tuesday and Wednesday by unknown gunmen has created panic among residents of the region, PRNigeria has learnt.

According to the Online public relations portal, it confirmed from credible security sources that the soldiers lost their lives when gunmen, suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) militia, separately attacked two checking points in Enugu and Anambra.

According to one of the sources, the targeting of security personnel by IPOB terrorists, especially soldiers on national assignment is becoming worrisome.

“The last two attacks occurred in less than 24 hours, where we lost some gallant soldiers.

“The first attack occurred at an army checkpoint along the Obeagu-Amodu road in Enugu South local government area of Enugu State, when suspected IPOB gunmen stormed the checkpoint in two Lexus Jeeps and one Toyota Sienna, and opened fire on troops.

“The following day, the gunmen attacked soldiers who were on a patrol near Nkwo Market, at Umunze in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State,” he said.

Meanwhile, Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, while condemning the killings, vowed to do everything to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted.
