ALAYI, ABIA STATE — The Women’s Wing of the Alayi Development Union has declared its support for Labour Party chieftain, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, in his bid to represent Bende Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.
The women made their position known on Friday during the union’s 2026 August Meeting at Alayi Central School, where they offered prayers for Anyaso and pledged continued grassroots support for his political ambition.
The gathering attracted a large number of women from across Alayi, alongside political leaders and other dignitaries.
Speaking at the event, Anyaso said his decision to attend the meeting personally was driven by his respect for the people of Alayi, despite having visited the community earlier in the week.
“I was here on Sunday, and when I was invited again for this August Meeting, I considered sending a representative. But because of the respect I have for Alayi people, I decided to come myself,” he said.
Anyaso attributed what he described as the proliferation of substandard federal projects across Bende to inadequate representation, while commending Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for what he described as his leadership performance.
“The only reason we have substandard projects in Bende is failure of representation. If you see what Governor Alex Otti is doing, you will know he is a first-class brain, unlike those constructing roads that break down after two months,” he stated.
The Labour Party chieftain also said several interventions he had undertaken across Bende were personally financed, promising greater transparency and quality execution of projects if elected in 2027.
“I want to assure the people of Alayi, all I have been doing in Bende is from my pocket. But by the grace of God, come 2027, God will send us to Abuja,” Anyaso said.
He added: “While they award contracts to companies they registered for kickbacks, under our watch Bende will begin to see Julius Berger handling projects.”
Responding on behalf of the women, the President-General of the Women’s Wing, Mrs. Jane Okorie, prayed for Anyaso and assured him of the women’s support ahead of the election.
“For taking care of Alayi women, that which is your heart’s desire will be granted come 2027,” she prayed.
The August Meeting also provided an opportunity for community interaction and discussions on development, representation and the welfare of residents.
Among the dignitaries who attended were the Abia State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Enoch Uche; Deputy Mayor of Bende Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Anya; and Director of Women Mobilization for the Chima Anyaso Campaign, Mrs. Ezinne Okorie, among others.
