Banditry: Giwa Community Buries 11 Slain Victims

The Rafin Sarki community of Fatika district in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Friday buried 11 of its members killed by gunmen who attacked the village on Thursday.

Explaining the circumstances that led to the killings, a community leader who pleads anonymity for fear of attack, said the bandits attacked the community for refusing to accept to pay taxes imposed on farmers by the criminal gangs.

A community source gave the names of the slain victims Abdullahi Musa, Adamu Musa, Aminu Nasiru, Adamu Ibrahim, Yau Usman Ladan, Yunusa Saidu, Salisu Abdulrahman, Fati Usman, Yakubu Yau, Marwanu Ibrahim and one other person yet to be identified.

According to the source, the attacks followed wanton destruction of farmlands and crops worth millions of naira by bandit herdsmen who operated with ease and unchallenged.

The source prayed for the repose of the souls of the the slain victims and called on authorities to live up to their vital responsibility of securing the lives and properties of citizens.

The source lamented that while communities in Giwa live in daily fear of attacks that often go unreported, the authorities appear to be in total isolation or in deep denial of the situation.
