NDE Trains 30 Unemployed Persons On Environmental Beautification In Oyo
In line with its mandate of generating employment for the teeming unemployed persons in the country, the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has kicked–off the 2023 Environmental Beautification Training Scheme (EBTS) in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Speaking on behalf of the NDE Director General Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, at the flag-off ceremony of the scheme in Ibadan, the Acting State Coordinator, NDE Oyo State, Mrs Steve-Ogundipe Olayinka, explained that the EBTS is currently being implemented in Fourteen (14) States of the federation namely, Oyo, Kano, Sokoto, Zamfara, Gombe, Yobe, Benue, Niger, Abia, Imo, Enugu, Ekiti, Cros-River, and Bayelsa.
The Director General also said that thirty (30) participants, made up 10 per Senatorial district of Oyo State were selected and would be trained in the three Skill Sets of Hard landscaping, soft landscaping and POP.
The D.G assured that the agency will continue to implemented laudable schemes which aims at building the capacity of the unemployed at all levels in line with the objective of the Federal Government drive on Job creation and poverty eradication.
Also speaking, the Director, Special Public Works, (SPW) Abuja, Mrs Roseline Olaomi, who was represented by the head of SPW department, NDE Oyo State, Mr Adedotun Adu, explained that Environmental Beautification Training Scheme was designed by the NDE to create decent jobs to unemployed school leavers and drop-out through training and development in the landscaping service chain.
She added that the scheme promotes environmental renewal in habitats particularly in towns and cities offering skills in aesthetics, protection, sanitation, ornamentation to finishing and employability.
“I must say that the EBTS by design is an appropriate vehicle which aims at improving the employability of our youths, closing skills gaps through targeted skills-to- job training, building a competent workforce of technicians and artisans.
It also provides the required incentives for the informal private landscaping service providers to expand opportunities for intership for new entrants into the labour” market.”
She expressed hope that scheme will also boost job creation and public works programmes through the empowerment of some of its successful participants with starter packs at the end of training to start their businesses.
Olaomi also appealed to the beneficiaries of the scheme to seize the rare opportunity to better their fortunes and urged the master trainers to ensure they continue to diligently impact the required skills to NDE beneficiaries at all times.
