A former Senator of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria and an elder statesman in Kogi State, Senator Dr. Alex Usman Kadiri, has passsed on.
He died in Abuja after a brief illness at about 2pm on Thursday.
The former Senator celebrated his 82nd birthday just last week Friday at his country home ,Odu in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State. Kadiri was born on June 21, 1942.
Senator Alex Kadiri was the Senator representing Kogi East from 1999 to 2007.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Senator Dr. Alex Usman Kadiri, a dedicated public servant and a champion of the people,” said a family spokesperson. “He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His legacy of selfless service and commitment to the nation will never be forgotten.”
Senator Kadiri had served in various capacities in the course of his career, including member of the board and committee of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) . He is the former Director-General of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources . He later became the senator representing Kogi East senatorial district.
Meanwhile ,the Chairman, forum of Secretaries in Kogi State who also doubles as Secretary of Idah local government council, Alhaji Alhaji has expressed shock on the sudden death of the elder statesman and Senator.
Senator Kadiri was a Director General of Federal Ministry Of Water Resources before joining politics where he led the new generation of politicians to win six local government council elections out of nine with the defunct CNC party in Kogi East senatorial district of Kogi state.
Alhaji maintained that the vacuum created by the death would be difficult to fill in view of Sen. Kadiri’s passion for humanity and unity of purpose for the development of the state .
Alhaji Alhaji has also expressed his condolences to the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Usman Ododo, to the Ata Igala and president, Kogi State Council of Chiefs, HRM Alhaji Opaluwa Oguche, as well as to the members of the immediate and extended families of the Senator. and Kogi and Nigeria at large.
Senator Alex Kadiri is survived by his wife Pauline, and 5 children.
