Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Oyo State following the tragic incident that claimed the lives of several young people at a High School in Ibadan.
Governor Ododo expressed his deep sadness over the stampede that resulted in the death of 35 children, who had gathered to mark the festive season. He also sympathized with the families of the victims, particularly the women who were visibly traumatized by the loss of their loved ones.
“I want to express my deep sympathy for the government and people of Oyo State, where the unfortunate stampede claimed the lives of several young and promising Nigerians,” Governor Ododo said. “Our prayers are with the families who lost their loved ones and the government and people of Oyo State in this trying moment.”
In a press statement, Hon Ismaila Isah, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, said: “The Governor is deeply saddened by the tragic incident and has directed that a condolence message be sent to the government and people of Oyo State. He also prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims and for God to grant their families the fortitude to bear the loss.”
Governor Ododo also called for improved crowd control and emergency response measures in areas where large crowds are unavoidable, especially during the festive season. The incident occurred on Wednesday when over 5,000 young people had gathered at a High School in Ibadan for a youth festival.
