In Lokoja, a Kogi High Court has issued an arrest warrant for Enemona Anyebe, the state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for contempt of court.
Justice Yahaya Adamu, presiding over Court 5, delivered the ruling in a case brought by John Ojodale against the PDP and another party in suit no. HC/Okp/8/2024.
The judge ordered that a fresh election be conducted within 45 days to fill the position of the PDP Chairman, stating that Anyebe was unqualified to contest the election.
Justice Adamu’s decision also emphasized that Anyebe had not been a contestant in the election and thus, ordered his arrest for contempt of court.
The court’s ruling comes after an earlier decision barring Anyebe from participating in the PDP Congress held on August 31, 2024, following his suspension.
Muhammed Isah, a founding member of the PDP in Kogi State, expressed concerns that this development would further impact the party’s declining fortunes in the state. He called upon the party’s national secretariat to intervene promptly to restore order.
