A storm is brewing within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as the police intensify investigations into allegations of assault leveled against Hon. Wilson Ogbeche, the outgoing South-South Zonal Chairman of the party. The case, which is rocking the FCT PDP Secretariat in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, has placed the party leadership under scrutiny amid claims of intimidation, cover-up, and neglect of a female victim battling health complications from the incident.

The alleged victim, Mrs. Sandra, the outgoing Deputy Secretary of the PDP South-South Zone, formally reported to the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) desk of the Nigeria Police at Wuse Zone 3, that she was brutally assaulted by Hon. Ogbeche on September 22, 2025, at the party secretariat. Since then, she has reportedly been in and out of hospital as a result of injuries sustained, compounded by her long-term battle with asthma.

Despite police invitations, the FCT PDP State Chairman, Alhaji Ismaila Mohammed Dogara, allegedly failed on two separate occasions to present the accused before investigators. However, Hon. Ogbeche was eventually brought to the Wuse Police Division on September 29, following renewed pressure from the authorities.

Insiders within the party allege that the assault may not have been a personal action but was carried out under the instruction of the PDP state chairman himself. “The PDP leadership is adamant and unrepentant. Rather than seek justice for Mrs. Sandra, they have been threatening her to withdraw the case from the police or risk losing her position in the Bwari Area Council,” a source who is in the know of the matter revealed.

The matter has since attracted the attention of a human rights lawyer, Barr. Essien Ita, who was engaged by Mrs. Sandra’s son, Mr. Osaze, to represent her. Barr. Ita has strongly condemned the attack, and reportedly described it as a shameful display of impunity against a woman within a democratic party structure.

The rights lawyer further demanded an apology from the FCT PDP leadership, stressing that Hon. Ogbeche has shown no remorse while the victim continues to endure sleepless nights from the physical and emotional trauma of the incident.

“The PDP owes Nigerians and its members an explanation as to why a woman was subjected to such brutal treatment inside the party secretariat. The party chairman must take responsibility and publicly apologize,” Ita was quoted to have declared.

Meanwhile, police sources confirmed that if the parties fail to reach a settlement before Monday, October 6, the case will be charged to court. Notably, PDP leaders reportedly failed to meet Mrs. Sandra at a scheduled reconciliation meeting on October 1, further deepening suspicions of bad faith on the part of the party hierarchy.

As the investigation continues, questions linger over the PDP’s internal discipline, its commitment to gender equity, and whether the matter will test the party’s image ahead of future political battles.
