The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has extended the deadline for the collection of Expression of Interest Forms for aspirants seeking elective offices ahead of the 2027 general elections, giving interested party members an additional one week to complete the process.
In a press statement signed by the National Secretary of the party, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu Esq., the NDC announced that the deadline, which was initially scheduled to close at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026, has now been shifted to 12:00 midnight on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
The extension affects aspirants contesting for seats in the State Houses of Assembly, the House of Representatives, the Senate, and governorship positions across the country.
The party, however, clarified that the collection of Expression of Interest Forms for the Office of the President has officially closed, signaling the conclusion of the first phase of its presidential nomination process.
According to the statement, screening of aspirants who have already purchased and completed their forms will commence on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, and end at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
The NDC further disclosed that the collection and return of Nomination Forms for aspirants who successfully scale through the screening exercise will begin on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, and close on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
The party stressed that no further extension would be granted beyond the new closing date, urging all aspirants to strictly adhere to the stipulated timelines and guidelines.
As part of the screening requirements, aspirants are expected to appear before screening and pre-qualification panels at designated venues nationwide with relevant documents, including educational certificates, birth certificates or declarations of age, four recent passport photographs, voter identification cards, NDC membership cards, and copies of their curriculum vitae.
The statement added that all submitted documents must be provided in six copies each for verification and administrative purposes.
The party explained that aspirants would be assessed based on several factors, including the wishes of the electorate, local political peculiarities, individual competence and capacity, as well as character and integrity.
The Screening Committee was also directed to pay close attention to the party’s affirmative action policy, particularly regarding women, youths, and persons living with disabilities, in line with the NDC’s commitment to inclusive political participation.
In addition, the party encouraged aspirants to embrace consensus-building efforts where necessary, noting that only aspirants who successfully pass the screening process would qualify to purchase Nomination Forms.
The NDC reiterated its call for strict compliance with all laid down procedures, emphasizing that adherence to the guidelines remains crucial to ensuring a transparent and credible nomination process ahead of the elections.
