The Executive Chairman of Oru West Local Government Area and Deputy National President of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Engr. Ikenna Toni Adikibe, has called on Muslim faithful across Nigeria to embrace the virtues of sacrifice, peace, and brotherhood as they celebrate the 2026 Eid-el-Adha festival.
In a goodwill message issued on Wednesday to Muslims in all 774 local government areas and area councils nationwide, Adikibe described Eid al-Adha as a sacred season that reflects mercy, obedience, and devotion to God, drawing inspiration from the sacrifices of Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail.
The ALGON deputy national president said the celebration should serve as a reminder that genuine faith is demonstrated through selflessness, compassion, and commitment to the values of Islam as taught by Prophet Muhammad.
According to him, the symbolic declaration of “Allahu Akbar” resonates across the country from Sokoto to Lagos, Maiduguri to Port Harcourt, and Imo to Zamfara, reinforcing the unity of Muslims under one faith and one brotherhood.
Adikibe noted that the pillars of Islam — Shahadah, Salat, Zakat, Sawm, and Hajj — remain fundamental to building disciplined individuals, stable families, and peaceful communities irrespective of ethnic or regional differences.
He, however, stressed the need for improved security and collective responsibility during the festive period, especially in rural communities where many residents face economic hardship and insecurity.
The council chairman urged local government chairmen, traditional rulers, and security stakeholders across the federation to work closely with residents to guarantee safety during the celebrations through intelligence gathering, coordinated patrols, and stronger community engagement.
He said effective collaboration between citizens and security agencies would ensure that markets remain open, worship centres are protected, roads are safe, and families can celebrate the festival without fear.
Adikibe further called on Nigerians to extend the spirit of sacrifice and tolerance beyond the Eid celebration into their daily interactions and grassroots governance, adding that national unity and peaceful coexistence remain critical to sustainable development.
He prayed for Allah to accept the prayers, sacrifices, and good deeds of the Muslim faithful, while wishing all Nigerians a peaceful and joyous Eid Mubarak celebration.
