The President of the All-Africa Students Union (AASU), HE Osisiogu Osikenyi E., has emerged as the candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) for the 2027 House of Representatives election for the Karu/Keffi/Kokona Federal Constituency of Nasarawa State following the party’s primary election held on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
Osisiogu, a youth advocate and student movement leader, was returned as the consensus candidate of the party during the Federal Constituency primary conducted in Karu Local Government Area amid the presence of party officials, stakeholders, delegates, and representatives of relevant statutory bodies.
The declaration was made on behalf of the National Chairman of the YPP, Comrade Emmanuel Bishop Amakiri, by the party’s National Woman Leader, Mrs. Anita Zugwei-Chukwu, who formally announced Osisiogu as the party’s standard bearer for the 2027 National Assembly poll.
Following internal party processes and the declaration, the YPP national leadership issued him a certificate of return in the presence of the party’s Nasarawa State Chairman, Hon. Jonah Ode Umaru; the State Secretary, Comrade Ochekwu Morgan Ocheche; the Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Abbas Mohammed; alongside several party executives and coordinators from the state and local government levels.
The emergence of the AASU President is already generating conversations within political circles in Nasarawa State, particularly among youth groups and first-time voters, as his candidacy is being projected by supporters as a symbolic departure from the dominance of established political actors in the constituency.
In his acceptance speech shortly after receiving his certificate of return, Osisiogu expressed gratitude to party members and supporters for what he described as their “valiant faith” in the Young Progressives Party, assuring them of his commitment to leading the party to victory in the 2027 general election.

“I want to thank all of you for your valiant faith in the Young Progressives Party. I’m very grateful and even prouder to justify the continuation of the cause in the Young Progressives Party,” he stated.
Declaring that the YPP has evolved into a major political force in Nasarawa State, Osisiogu said the party was no longer a fringe political platform but a formidable contender capable of winning elections across the state.
“The Young Progressives Party is no longer a new party in Nasarawa State. It is a major contender for the next election,” he declared.
The YPP candidate disclosed that he had already traversed the entire federal constituency before the primary election, visiting all 32 electoral wards spread across Karu, Keffi, and Kokona Local Government Areas.
According to him, the extensive grassroots consultations convinced him that the YPP possesses the structure and support base required to secure victory across the constituency.

“I have been privileged before now to visit all of the 32 electoral wards — 11 in Karu, 10 in Keffi, and 11 in Kokona. I have seen that we have what it takes to garner support to win in all of those places,” he said.
Osisiogu framed his candidacy as part of a broader struggle for generational inclusion in governance, arguing that the current political order has continued to sideline younger Nigerians while recycling the same class of political actors.
“It is a fight for a generation that has been deprived. Our generation has been deprived. None of the parties have proved us wrong. They have all recycled politicians and done things inconsistent with what we are clamouring for,” he asserted.
The student union leader further stated that his ambition transcends personal political interest, insisting that his campaign would represent millions of residents across the constituency, especially young people and struggling families seeking better representation.
“My candidature comes not only to represent the millions of people who are residents in Karu, Keffi, and Kokona, raising their families and struggling to send their children to school, but also to represent young people’s aspirations — a departure from the old establishment,” he added.
He promised that the YPP would run an aggressive but issue-based campaign rooted in grassroots mobilization and electoral vigilance.
“We are going to lead a very vigorous and fearless campaign. We are going to be tough when necessary, but we are not going to play foul,” he said.
Repeatedly emphasizing electoral accountability, Osisiogu stressed that the 2027 elections must reflect the genuine will of the people.
“Our votes must count and they must be counted,” he declared repeatedly to loud cheers from supporters and party faithful gathered at the venue.
He also used the occasion to call on party members and supporters to intensify voter mobilization efforts, particularly through participation in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise being conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to him, securing permanent voter cards remains the most effective strategy for political participation and electoral victory.
“We want to go back to all our constituencies and units to canvass our families, friends, and everybody in this constituency to get their voter cards as INEC continues the continuous voter registration exercise,” he urged.
Osisiogu further described the YPP as one of the few political parties in Nigeria with strong internal cohesion and minimal legal disputes, saying the party’s internal stability gives it a strategic advantage ahead of the 2027 elections.
“YPP is one of the very few political parties in Nigeria with zero litigation. We don’t have any reason to run anywhere. Within the YPP, which is now a big family in Nasarawa State, we have what it takes to carry out grassroots mobilisation and win many elections,” he said.
The newly elected candidate concluded by assuring party members of his unwavering commitment to the campaign and the broader mission of expanding YPP’s influence across Nasarawa State and beyond.
“We intend to win at every level of elections here in Nasarawa come 2027 and beyond. I assure you of my relentless commitment until the last vote is counted,” he said.
Political observers believe Osisiogu’s emergence may significantly reshape the political dynamics within the Karu/Keffi/Kokona Federal Constituency, especially with growing youth participation in Nigeria’s democratic process and increasing calls for generational transition in leadership.
