The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has thrown its weight behind the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), describing the party as a leading national political movement and the preferred platform for many Nigerians seeking a credible alternative in the country’s evolving democratic landscape.
The endorsement came during a courtesy visit by a high-powered PANDEF delegation, led by its National Chairman, Ambassador Dr. Boladei Igali, to the Abuja residence of Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, National Leader of the NDC.
Speaking during the visit, Ambassador Igali commended the former Bayelsa State governor for what he described as his courage, foresight, and commitment to democratic development through the establishment and growth of the NDC.
According to the PANDEF Chairman, the emergence of the party has enriched Nigeria’s political space and created a platform that is attracting increasing support and attention from citizens across the country.
He noted that PANDEF regards the NDC as a significant national movement that is rapidly gaining acceptance and positioning itself as a formidable force within Nigeria’s political environment.
“We came to pay a courtesy call on His Excellency, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, the National Leader of the NDC, first to congratulate him as a son of the Niger Delta for having the courage to come up with a national movement, and also to discuss the activities of the party,” Igali said.
He added that PANDEF’s engagement with the NDC forms part of a broader consultation process involving political parties and major stakeholders across the federation.
“PANDEF is engaging with leaders of various political parties on issues pertaining to the Niger Delta and the country at large. We had a very fruitful discussion, and we appreciate the fact that the NDC has become a leading national movement and perhaps the party of choice for many Nigerians today.
“We are particularly pleased that this is happening at a time when we are at the helm of affairs in PANDEF,” he stated.
The PANDEF Chairman disclosed that the organization has already held consultations with several political parties and leaders as part of its efforts to advance dialogue on issues affecting the Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole.
He emphasized that the regional body remains committed to contributing to initiatives and policies that promote peace, equity, development, and national progress.
“We have met with a number of other party leaders; some have come to see us, while we have visited others. We will continue to make our contributions towards making Nigeria a better place,” he said.
Igali further stressed the need for sustained collaboration among political actors, regional organizations, and national institutions in tackling the country’s numerous challenges and improving the welfare of citizens.
In a further show of support for the NDC, the PANDEF Chairman congratulated the party’s national leadership, including its National Chairman, members of the National Working Committee, and supporters across the country for their efforts in strengthening democratic participation and political engagement.
“Once again, we congratulate His Excellency, Senator Dickson. We also congratulate the Chairman of the party, the national leadership, and the teeming members and supporters of the NDC from across the country. We wish them all the very best in the evolving democratic dispensation,” he added.
Political observers view the visit as a significant development in the ongoing realignments within Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly as stakeholders intensify consultations ahead of future electoral contests.
The meeting also underscored PANDEF’s continuing commitment to constructive engagement with political institutions and leaders while advocating the interests of the Niger Delta region and promoting national unity and development.
Members of the PANDEF delegation included Hon. Bassey Nyong Ekefre, Deputy National Chairman of the forum, and Mrs. Ifeoma Onyeoma Agbomah, National Treasurer.
