In a dramatic twist to the unfolding 2027 presidential race, prominent political figure Arc. Dr. Peter Agada has officially severed ties with the Labour Party (LP) to join the Young Progressives Party (YPP). The bombshell announcement was made on Monday during a World Press Conference in Abuja, organized alongside the National Support Network of The Movement Nigeria (TMN).
Reading from a heavily worded press statement, Dr. Agada launched a scathing attack on the leadership of the Labour Party, accusing them of financial exploitation, insincerity, and systemic exclusion.

A Bitter Departure over “Zoning Lies”
According to Dr. Agada, his departure was precipitated by what he termed a sudden and unconstitutional disqualification from the party’s presidential ticket just one day before its primary election. He explained that after being screened and cleared on May 6, 2026, the party leadership performed a sudden U-turn.
“All of these expenses went down only for the Labour Party to suddenly wake up from a memory loss on May 28, 2026, only one day to its presidential primary, to send a letter to me stating that they had disqualified me from the presidential ticket because I was from the Middle Belt of Nigeria,” Agada stated.
The presidential hopeful strongly disputed the party’s justification, labeling it a complete fabrication.
“They claimed that the presidential ticket of the party had been zoned to the South, which was of course, a brazen cruel lie. Acknowledging this lie, the party’s own screening committee report set up after the Umuahia convention affirmed and advised the leadership of the Labour Party that there is no provision in the party’s constitution for zoning.”
Legal Battle Looms Over “Swindled Funds”
The rift has escalated beyond mere political disagreements into a legal battle. Dr. Agada revealed that his nationwide support coalition, TMN, which heavily funded the LP’s national convention in Umuahia on April 28, 2026, has initiated criminal and civil proceedings against the party to recover their investments.
“The board of trustees and leadership of TMN nationwide has determined to leave no stone unturned in lawful efforts to recover their collectively contributed funds from the Labour Party,” Agada announced. “To this end, court proceedings bordering on fraud and obtaining under false pretense has been served today at the instance of the TMN on the Labour Party and the party’s felony confederates.”
He maintained that his transparency throughout the process remains unblemished, adding that he is cooperating fully with the coalition’s legal team to “interrogate the swindled funds in court.”
A New Chapter with the YPP
Now running under the banner of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Dr. Agada expressed confidence that his new political home aligns more closely with his core values and vision for the country.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I am delighted to inform you that I have now found all these qualities in the Young Progressives Party. I pray that this will continue to be so in our journey together to the future.”
Describing his vision for the country, he emphasized his readiness to bring fresh energy to the executive office: “…I have more than what it takes to fix our country and stun the world with the brand new story of a brand new Nigeria. Today, I feel both honoured and challenged by such depth of trust to justify to our country their immense vote of confidence by vying for the highest political office of our land.”
Policy And Humanitarian Initiatives Unveiled
Beyond the political fallout, Dr. Agada used the press conference to unveil two major institutional frameworks aimed at transforming Nigeria’s socioeconomic landscape, alongside a critical security intervention.
LabourDirect.com: Described as a “ready-made, cross-sector digital platform,” the initiative aims to translate labour ideology into tangible economic results. Agada noted that the platform will achieve this by “integrating policy, budgeting, and infrastructure planning for all 23 sectors of the Nigerian economy on one map, with one set of governing rules.”
The Labour Institute of Nigeria: Conceived alongside the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), this non-partisan policy and research hub is designed to “institutionalize the ideologies of the global labour movement within Nigeria’s democratic framework,” functioning similarly to the major political think-tanks in the United States.
Nationwide Outcry Over Kidnapped Oyo Schoolchildren
In an emotional concluding segment, Dr. Agada condemned the ongoing security failures across the country, highlighting the agonizing plight of 46 Nigerians—including school children, teachers, and a 19-month-old infant—abducted by terrorists in Oyo State on May 15, 2026.
“It is sickening that since then to date these innocent Nigerians have been sleeping in the jungle bush under the rains at night and hoping against hope of rescue during no less frightful excruciating hours at day,” he lamented.
To demand urgent action, Agada announced that TMN will host a nationwide candlelight vigil in Oyo State this Wednesday, June 10, 2026, to rally the country together to ensure the victims “are safely rescued and re-united unhurt to their suffering families,” while extending the solidarity to all captives in Niger, Kwara, Borno, and across the federation.
