Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his commitment to the party’s vision of transforming Nigeria through purposeful leadership, revealing that he held strategic consultations with key party leaders on Democracy Day to strengthen the movement for a “New Nigeria.”
Obi disclosed that he met with the National Leader of the NDC, Senator Seriake Dickson, and the party’s Vice Presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, as part of ongoing efforts to consolidate the party’s structures and advance its political agenda ahead of future electoral contests.
In a statement issued on Thursday to commemorate June 12 Democracy Day, Obi described the meetings as productive and significant, stressing that the discussions reflected the growing strength and promise of the NDC despite being a relatively young political platform.
“On this June 12, Democracy Day, I had useful meetings with my partners in the building of the New Nigeria that is Possible: our great party’s National Leader, H.E. Senator Seriake Dickson, and our party’s Vice Presidential candidate, H.E. Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso,” Obi stated.
According to him, the NDC, though barely four months old, has continued to demonstrate resilience and potential in the nation’s political landscape.
“The NDC, as a party that is barely four months old, despite the challenges, remains the party of the future, and the fruitful discussions at the meetings clearly underscore this fact,” he said.
The former Anambra State governor emphasized the importance of unity, sacrifice, and mutual understanding among party leaders and members, noting that such values are indispensable for sustaining a collective vision of national transformation.
He maintained that leaders within a political family must be prepared to place the broader interest of the movement above personal considerations.
“The leaders and members of a committed political family must be willing to make sacrifices and show tolerance and accommodation, even in difficult circumstances. This shared understanding is essential for building trust, strengthening unity, and sustaining the vision we collectively hold for national transformation,” Obi said.
The NDC presidential candidate further assured supporters that the party remained focused on providing an alternative leadership model anchored on democratic principles, compassion, and productivity.
Declaring the party’s readiness to drive meaningful change across the country, Obi said all stakeholders within the NDC were united by a common objective.
“We are all committed to this goal. The NDC remains the vehicle that will convey Nigeria through purposeful, compassionate leadership, with firm commitment to productivity and democratic ideals towards the New Nigeria that is Possible,” he stated.
The statement comes amid growing political realignments and consultations across the country as parties and political leaders position themselves ahead of future electoral engagements.
Observers say the public display of unity among Obi, Kwankwaso and Dickson is likely to reinforce confidence among supporters of the NDC and strengthen the party’s efforts to establish itself as a formidable force in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
