ABUJA — The Nigeria Policy Group has presented Charles Obinna Chiemenem as an emerging contender in the 2027 Imo State governorship race, describing him as an underdog with a distinct vision centred on economic transformation, investment attraction and private sector-driven development.
In a press statement signed by Isaac Eze, the group said Chiemenem’s background in administration and real estate has equipped him with the experience required to reposition Imo State by fostering an enabling environment for businesses, investors and entrepreneurs.
According to the group, while the political landscape ahead of the 2027 governorship election is expected to feature established political figures with formidable structures, Chiemenem is entering the race with what it described as a fresh perspective focused on sustainable development rather than conventional politics.
The statement noted that the governorship hopeful believes Imo State possesses untapped economic potential capable of attracting substantial domestic and foreign investment, particularly in the state capital, Owerri.
The group said Chiemenem envisions Owerri evolving into a major destination for investment in real estate, hospitality, commerce and tourism, adding that such growth would stimulate job creation, strengthen local businesses and improve the living standards of residents.
“Charles Obinna Chiemenem is one of the emerging names looking towards the 2027 governorship race in Imo State, bringing with him a background in administration, real estate, and the private sector,” the statement said.
It added that his approach to governance is anchored on the belief that meaningful development can only be achieved through a strong partnership between government and the private sector.
According to the Nigeria Policy Group, Chiemenem’s investment-driven agenda seeks to create an environment where businesses can thrive, investors can operate with confidence and young people can access expanded economic opportunities.
The organisation further argued that attracting investment extends beyond securing new businesses, stressing that it also delivers employment opportunities, economic expansion and enhanced social welfare for citizens.
While acknowledging the challenges posed by the expected participation of experienced political heavyweights in the 2027 contest, the group maintained that Chiemenem’s emergence offers Imo voters an alternative leadership option built on innovation, enterprise and economic renewal.
The statement expressed confidence that his campaign would focus on presenting what it described as “a different possibility” for the future of Imo State through visionary leadership and practical solutions to the state’s socio-economic challenges.
It concluded that Chiemenem’s aspiration represents more than a political ambition, saying it reflects a determination to redefine governance in Imo State by prioritising investment, opportunity creation and inclusive development.
