Bangladesh Russia MoU cultural cooperation was signed in St Petersburg, Russia on Tuesday. The two countries signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the sidelines of the 12th St Petersburg International United Cultures Forum.
The Ministry of Cultural Affairs of Bangladesh and the Russian Federation signed the agreement. Culture Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury signed on behalf of Bangladesh. The ministry disclosed this in a press release issued on Tuesday evening.
Agreement To Expand Cultural Exchanges
The MoU emphasizes expanding mutual cultural exchanges. In addition, it focuses on cooperation in heritage preservation, arts and culture, museums, archaeology and creative initiatives.
Furthermore, the agreement underscores the need to strengthen longstanding friendly ties. Bangladesh and Russia share decades of bilateral cooperation. Therefore, the new pact will deepen cultural diplomacy.
The international forum runs until September 26. It provides a platform to showcase diverse cultures. Consequently, Bangladesh aims to project its rich heritage on the global stage.
Myanmar Minister Meets Bangladesh Culture Minister
Earlier, Myanmar’s Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture, U Tin Oo Lwin, paid a courtesy call on the Bangladesh culture minister. The two ministers held fruitful discussions.
They discussed archaeological heritage, Buddhist traditions and cultural similarities. In addition, they discussed shared historical characteristics of both countries.
The Bangladesh minister highlighted the country’s thousand-year-old cultural heritage. He also highlighted archaeological treasures and diverse folk festivals, including Pahela Baishakh. Moreover, he spoke about cultural diversity of ethnic communities in hills and plain lands and multifaceted traditions of Bangla music.
Minister To Deliver Keynote On Folk Artisan Craftwork
On the second day of the forum, September 25, the culture minister will deliver a keynote address. The thematic session is titled “Folk Artisan Craftwork Rebooted”.
He is scheduled to highlight Bangladesh’s folk art and revival of traditional crafts. In addition, he will project the global potential of traditional handicrafts.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to attend the forum’s plenary session tomorrow afternoon.
A three-member Bangladesh delegation, led by Culture Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury, left Dhaka on September 22 to attend the forum. Two joint secretaries of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs are accompanying him.
The forum is expected to open new avenues for bilateral cooperation with friendly countries. It will also showcase Bangladesh’s multicultural traditions to the world, reports BSS.
