Ondo State Deputy Governor, Ali Olanusi, has been impeached by the State Assembly.
He was removed Monday morning following the submission of the report by the seven-man panel headed by Mr. Olatunji Adeniyan on the allegations leveled against him.
Twenty two​ of the 26 members of the Assembly supported the impeachment of the Deputy Governor.
The motion for his impeachment was moved by the majority leader, Ifedayo Akinsoyinu​, from Ondo West 2 and seconded by Olatunji Dauro from Owo 2‎.
The Speaker, Jumoke Akindele, subsequently ruled that all government property in the custody of the Deputy Governor be retrieved by the Permanent Secretary of the Deputy Governor’s office.
The Assembly had on April 22 served an impeachment notice on the removed deputy governor.
Some of the allegations levelled against him include financial misappropriation, absenteeism from official duties and causing disaffection in the state cabinet.
The House maintained that its action was in consonance with the 1999 Constitution.
Olanusi had defected to the All Progressives Congress from the Peoples Democratic Party two days to the March 28, 2015, presidential election.,
He, alongside Governor Segun Mimiko, left the Labour Party, on which platform they were elected, to join the PDP.
There were indications at press time that the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo may have been nominated as the new Deputy Governor of the state.
