Fire Guts Another Kano Market

PIC.-4.-FIRE-OUTBREAK-AT-CENTRAL-MARKET-IN-YOLAA night fire on Tuesday razed down many shops and temporary stalls at Kano’s century-old market, Kasuwar Kurmi.

The famous market, located in the heart of the city, was a center of trans-Saharan trade in the pre-colonial era.

On March 25, fire gutted at least 3,500 shops in the largest commodity market in Northern Nigeria, Sabongari Market, Kano.

A trader, Sani Muntari, said the Kurmi Market fire started around 8.30pm of Tuesday night and raged till Wednesday morning.

Witnesses said the state fire service arrived the scene shortly after a distress call and started battling the inferno.
