….As ALGON Mobilises Grassroots Structure, SWAGA 2.0 Network for Final Campaign Push
OSOGBO, Osun State — The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State Chapter, has thrown its full weight behind the governorship ambition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, declaring that the party is on course for what it described as a “total victory” in the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
The declaration was made on Tuesday during the official launch of the SWAGA 2.0 political movement in Osun State, where the association said the state’s 30 democratically elected local government chairmen had commenced an intensive last-mile grassroots mobilisation campaign aimed at securing victory for the APC.
Speaking on behalf of the 30 council chairmen, the Chairman of ALGON in Osun State and Chairman of Ifedayo Local Government Area, Hon. Samuel Idowu Abiodun, described local governments as the foundation of electoral success in the state, stressing that the combined grassroots reach of the councils would be deployed to consolidate support for the ruling party.
According to him, SWAGA 2.0 has evolved beyond a political support group into a broad-based movement designed to strengthen progressive governance and facilitate what he called a new political direction for Osun State.
He maintained that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by reinforcing effective governance at the grassroots level through empowered local government administration.
“The 30 LGAs are one indivisible team. We have the structure in every ward, the trust in every town, and the mandate of the people. We will convert the energy of SWAGA 2.0 into votes and secure victory for APC and for Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji,” Abiodun said.
The council chairmen also cited Oyebamiji’s public service record as justification for their endorsement, pointing to his previous roles as Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Commissioner for Finance in Osun State, and leader of the Osun State Investment Company Limited.
They argued that his experience at both federal and state levels had equipped him with the administrative capacity required to drive economic growth and sustainable development across the state.
“We are endorsing capacity that has been tested both at the centre and at home. We are endorsing a son of the soil who understands the economy of the grassroots and carries the blueprint to reposition Osun for sustainable prosperity,” the ALGON chairman stated.
The association equally commended President Tinubu for policies promoting local government autonomy and judicial independence, saying the reforms had strengthened governance at the third tier by improving operational independence, funding and service delivery.
According to the chairmen, the reforms have positioned local councils to play a more effective role in delivering development projects and expanding democratic dividends directly to communities.
“Power truly resides with the people, and with autonomy, the 30 LGAs are now better equipped to lead development from the grassroots upward,” the statement said.
As political campaigns enter their final phase, ALGON called on APC supporters, traditional rulers, youth groups, women and residents across the state’s 30 local government areas to remain peaceful throughout the electoral process.
The association also pledged to collaborate with the APC leadership and security agencies to ensure a peaceful, free and credible election while safeguarding the integrity of the voting process in areas identified as potential flashpoints, including Osogbo, Ife, Ijesa, Iwo and other parts of the state.
Describing the forthcoming election as pivotal to Osun’s future, the council chairmen expressed confidence that the APC would secure victory through its extensive grassroots network and coordinated mobilisation efforts.
“August 15 is not just an election. It is a referendum on progress. Osun will move forward,” the chairmen declared.
