Escapee suspected Ibadan serial killer, Sunday Shodipe, has been rearrested by operatives of the Oyo State command of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, who confirmed the re-arrest of suspected said “Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Oyo State Police Command, have re-arrested the notorious murder suspect, Sunday Shodipe who escaped from lawful custody on 11th August, 2020,” police spokesman Frank Mba said in a statement on Sunday.
“He was re-arrested today, Sunday, 23rd August, 2020 by Police operatives at the Bodija area of Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital,” he added.
Mba also cautioned the Oyo State police command “against any form of complacency,” adding that “all hands must be on deck to bring the case to a positive and successful closure.”
Shodipe had confessed that he was sent on the killing mission by a herbalist who was also arrested by the police but the man denied his claims.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Olugbenga Fadeyi, had earlier confirmed the development to the newsmen.
SP Fadeyi said: “The suspect has been rearrested and is currently in police custody.”
Shodipe (19), who is suspected to have killed about six women at Akinyele Local Government Area of the state, escaped from the Mokola police station on Tuesday, August 11.
This prompted a wave of protests against the police, but the state Commissioner of Police, Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu, had assured that everything had been put in place to ensure the rearrest of the suspect.
Just last Thursday, a N500,000 bounty was placed on Shodipe’s head by the police.

The Street Reporters Newspaper can confirm that Sunday Shodipe, a suspected serial killer in Ibadan, has finally opened up on how he escaped from the police custody hours after he was rearrested by the Oyo state police command.
Speaking on how he escaped from custody, Shodipe said his escape was perfected when he was taken out by a police officer to have his bath.
Sunday Shodpie has explained his escape ordeal following his rearrest by the police. Shodipe, who had confessed to being responsible for the ritual killing in Akinyele axis of Ibadan, said he ran away when the police officer monitoring him was engrossed in a discussion “with another person.”
“The new female DPO asked officer Funsho to allow me take my bath. He cautioned me not to try to escape when I am taking my bath.
“I escaped when I saw him discussing with another person. I climbed the borehole pole and jumped the fence.
“The people living in the area saw me when I escaped but they did not raise any alarm,” he said.
Before his first arrest and escape, suspected murderer disclosed that a certain herbalist who he worked for, Adedokun Yinusa Ajani (50 years), was the one sending him on such assignments. According to Sodipe, anytime he was going for an operation, the herbalist would tell him to kneel down in front of him and he (Ajani) would make some incantations and then put something on his tongue three times.
How Group Apprehended Sunday Shodipe
Residents of Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, Sunday evening, went into wild jubilation, after the news of rearrest of Sunday Shodipe was announced by the state police command.
Shodipe was suspected to have been the mastermind of terrorism and increasing killings in the local government.
Giving insight into how the suspected serial killer was rearrested, the caretaker Chairman, Akinyele Local Government, Mr. Taoreed Adedigba confirmed that Shodioe was rearrested on Sunday at Iwo Road by a group with the support of a tactical team that had once worked with the Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor Makinde, Fatai Owoseni in Akure.
The council boss added that special prayers were offered in Akinyele on Saturday by traditionalists who performed different rites, Muslim clerics offered their prayers, while the Christian Association of Nigeria, Akinyele chapter also held fasting and prayer.
He commended Governor Seyi Makinde for this great feat, saying that: “As I speak to you, there is massive jubilation by residents of our LG, they are commending Makinde on this welcome development.”
He added that the five hundred thousand naira (500,000) promised by the state government and police would be paid to the group on Tuesday while pledging that his council would also compensate the group.
