A top leader of the Civilian Joint Task Force (Civilian JTF) in Borno State has been killed after an explosion suspected to have been triggered by mines planted by Boko Haram insurgents.
Five other persons sustained injuries in the incident which happened in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, North East of Nigeria.
The victim, who was identified as Ibrahim Maliya Saidu, was the planning secretary of Civilian JTF in Biu.
The incident reportedly happened around Maliya village, Mandaragarau Ward in Biu.
According to top Civilian JTF member, Mohammed Aliyu, who spoke to Trust TV, the late Maliya was a brave member who battled insurgents on several occasions.
“We received the sad news this afternoon, that one of our finest CJTF members died during an operation. It was a rude shock to everyone. May the soul of departed rest in peace.”
“Rest in peace, my brother Ibrahim Maliya Saidu Maliya, alongside other friends of ours, including Docta Suleiman Sykami, who also stepped on explosive devices planted by suspected Boko Haram fighters”, he prayed.
