A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the National Coordinator of the South East APC Integrity Group founded in June 2015, Dr. Chinedu Jideofo-Ogbuagu, has queried the rational behind the continuation of campaigns by the Labour Party governorship candidate in Enugu State, Hon. Chijioke Edeoga.
In a statement titled โChijioke Edeoga – Seeking To Be Governor Of Enugu State On The Corpses Of His Townspeople Of Eha-amufuโ, Dr. Jideofo-Ogbuagu urged the governorship candidate to โcall off his campaign and enter the bush to confront his people’s aggressors.โ
The APC chieftain was reacting to news of attacks at Eha-Amufu, a town in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State, the zone where Edeoga hails from.
According to media reports, communities in the town were said to be totally under siege, with markets locked up, houses abandoned, and all the residents now seeking refuge as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in neighbouring towns and cities.
Reports added that residents say over 50 persons have been allegedly killed within the last few weeks by rampaging Fulani herdsmen while other sources from the town put the number of those killed in the last two years to 160.
However, in the statement, Dr. Jideofo-Ogbuagu asked: โIs Chijioke Edeoga not from Eha-Amufu town where scores of his people have been massacred very recently and the survivors are under constant threat of being attacked by known terrorists?
โHas he even uttered a word against the killings of his own people?
โIf he is that unconcerned about massacres of his people, is it people of other parts of Enugu State that he would jump to secure as “Chief Security Officer” if he won governorship of Enugu State?
โWhy do people who lack the mental, moral and other crucial capacities to occupy certain positions want to enter such positions?
โDo people really don’t know limits of their capacities or is it that they just don’t care?โ, he further asked.
The APC leader then said โMr Edeoga should call off his governorship campaign and enter the bush to confront his people’s aggressors.
โThat is what leaders do in times of crisesโ, Jideofo-Ogbuagu added.
