…Join Family At Rafatu Agbeke Oyebamiji’s 8th Day Fidau Prayer

… As AWA Bamiji Dedicates Torrent Of Tributes To Mandela As Good Example Of Selfless Leader Amid Sequence Of “Coup D’etat” In Africa

Tuesday, 5 August, 2023, was historic in the life of the civil societies’ community across the globe as various Civil Societies’ Organizations (CSOs) were truly represented, either by personal attendance or through spectacular individual condolences and Tributes over the loss of Madam Rafatu Agbeke Oyebamiji, 98.

She was the mother of a renowned rights’ activist of decades, Comrade AWA Bamiji, who means different interpretations to different people, as 8th day Fidau Prayer was held in her honour, at the Agbalegan Community, Jinanrere Area of Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.

Moved to ensure that none was offended in a way, owing to increasing popularity of the breaved family, they opted to acknowledge the full historic list of tributes and condolences filed in from across the globe on social media for all to have a view, in lieu of opening the traditional condolence register at the entrance of their residence.

Described as first of its kind, highly impressive, and properly coordinated, the new media condolence register made participation easier, before, during and after the 8th day Fidau Prayer.

Those who couldn’t pay condolence visits in person are reaching out through phone calls/sms/email/Facebook/Instagram and other social media means of communication to have their individual and Corporate names listed accordingly.

In summary, the entire message was that God Almighty has been wonderful in making the appointment of the substantive Minister for Youths open till now.

The ministerial slot is the last to be filled and controversial.

Activists were of the opinion that the slot should have been filled with best candidate around, the most outstanding youth leader, who has been in the last three decades, “consistent and has geniunely made himself blood relation to Mr President, through his interesting and countless mass mobilization projects, pure and pro-democracy in nature, year in, year out.”

The 5 different leagues of Imams and Alfas, who were at the event, led a breakthrough Prayer for emergence of Comrade Awa Bamiji as the next Hon Minister of Youth in Nigeria, based on pure merit.

It was said that his total neglect by the power-that-be since January 2004, when Mr President made first good move backed up with physical actions to appoint the June 12 activist into an office in Lagos State, followed by the 2011/2012 Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s, till date, has remained beyond human comprehension and known only to God Almighty.

According to pondits, this must be the reason why the Nigerian First Nobel Laurette, Prof Wole Soyinka, described the passage of Madam Rafatu Agbeke Oyebamiji as horrendous. Activists Urge Tinubu To Appoint Awa Bamiji As Minister of Youths

On the other hand, a powerful and solidarity calls came from a litrary icon, Prof (Mrs) Bolanle Awe, and Della Ilenre, United Kingdom based Daughter of late Comrade Alfred Ilenre, the late Chairman of June 12 Coalition, both of whom couldn’t make it to the venue due to the distance.

Apart from Awawa, Aba – Alfa, Olomi and Agbalegan, Jinanrere, Iyana Church,  Alakia/Isebo Road, Landlords’ Associations, seasoned politicians, experienced artisans, veteran Journalists, radical Activists, Market unions and various Youth Organisations and Civil Societies were adequately represented.

Some of those in attendance, were Comrade Lanleyin Olasunkanmi, Secretary – General, Agbarijo Egbe Odo Yoruba, Grand Council of Yoruba Youths, also, One of the National Leaders, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN); Comrade Oyejide Salam, former Senate President, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS); Comrade Dauda Alimi, June 12 Activist and Financial Secretary, Agbarijo Egbe Odo Yoruba, Grand Council of Yoruba Youths; Comrade Shehu Musa Shittu (SMS), Oyo State President, Agbarijo Egbe Odo Yoruba, Grand Council of Yoruba Youths; Alhaji Fatai Ayanyemi, APC Elder, Eruwa, Ibarapa East Local Government, Oyo State; Comrade Agbeja Lawal represented Comrade Moshood Erubami; Campaign for Democracy (CD) was represented by both Pastor Banji Ajayi and Comrade Adeyemi Oloniyi while Pastor Samson Olayiwola, is a leading figure in the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) and CALCOL; Mr Tunde Kilani of the Mainframe Productions was represented by his close Aide, Mr Kayode Olaniyan, Comrade Tunde Bashir of Osinja Productions, among notable others.

The attendees added their voices to earlier June 12 @ 30 media advocacy of the Coalition of Pro-Democracy Groups for for A Better Nigeria held in Afri Hotels, Suits and Restaurants, in Abuja, on June 12, 2023, featuring various leading figures in Nigeria, Chief Frank Ovie Kokori, former General – Secretary, National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG) Workers, during the June 12, 1993 struggles; Alhaji Mujaheed Asari Dokubo, Leader, Niger Delta People’s Volunteers’ Force; Comrade (Senator) Adams Oshiomhole, who was ably represented by his Political Aide, Comrade Godwin Udhedhe; Comrade Kayode Opeifa, one of the CDHR Leaders and former Commissioner for Transport, Lagos State; Comrade Abuka Onalor Omobaba, President, Middle Belt Congress; Alhaji Yerima Shettima, President, Arewa Youth Consultative Forum; Comrade Segun Mayegun, former President, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS); Comrade Dayo Wusu, also of CDHR and former Aide to Barrister Femi Falana, SAN; Comrade Tunde Bashir of Osinja Productions, Ibadan, Oyo State, among others.

The tributes that pured in, again, justified the position of the June 12 activists on the nomination of a core activist as Youth Minister.

One of such tributes reads: “May God grant our collective prayer for breakthrough on Comrade AWA Bamiji, continue to uphold the breaved family, meet every Participant at their individual points of need and grant the two departed souls, including father’s, Oyebamiji Ajani Oyelere’s, eternal rest, prayed all the leading Clerics from various religious backgrounds.

“This 8th day Fidau Prayer didn’t come to an end without offering special prayers to the Host of the event, Alhaji Sarafa Akinola, and the Alhaji Salami Liadi Olagoke, Deputy National Chairman, Southwest Zone, Buhari Campaign Organisation (BCO) and former Accountant – General, Oyo State, who has contributed so much to the chain of successes recorded by various Platforms, being coordinated by Comrade AWA Bamiji, and passed on, a day before the event, Monday. May his soul rest in peace.

“A young Boy of 16 year old, Ejire Akewi, who is famous as Ewi Exponent, took the floor after the fidau prayer to entertain the Audience with his different kinds of Ewi music to promote African Culture and Tradition”. Awa Bamiji and Civil Society Organisations' Leaders At Fidau Prayer for His Late Mother

Good morning AWA. Profound condolences on the glorious passage of your mum. To live to 98 years is no mean feat. She was a Matriarch and woman of substance by every definition of that word. As an illustrious son and Nigeria’s foremost civil society activist, you must have imbibed your spirit of humanity and positive talents from her. At 98 years, she must have touched so many souls and impacted countless lives for positive existence. You are a proof of that as a child off the block. It’s a time to mourn the loss but also a period of joy and celebration that in spite of her glorious years, you survived her. Let’s all celebrate a glorious passage and shout for joy to God in gratitude and appreciation of God’s grace and mercies on her life.

Sorry my dear Brother, Awa Bamiji. Mama left us at a time when our collective struggles for the actualisation of June 12 electoral mandate given to late President MKO Abiola were rewarded by Almighty God, through Tinubu Presidency, 30 years after.
We always wonder about your uncommon determination to make things happen against all odds, about your energy, resilience and tenacity of purpose without knowing you have someone at home, who could be best described as “Orisa AWA”, as your mother. Through the divine mercy, she waited this long, to see that your struggles of 3 Decades running were rewarded with Tinubu Presidency. AWA Tinubu, AWA Bola Ige, AWA Afenifere Leaders, AWA, the most outstanding Youth Leader of Decedes, “AWA Orisa”, Congratulations for being able to bury this silent Achiever, your Prayer Warrior and Heroine of our time.

Awa Bamiji, you dreamt of a formidable National Platform for Nigerian Students in 1999 and few of us bought the idea. About 12 of us attended the inaugural meeting inside your Room F307, Post Graduate Hall, OAU, Ile – Ife, and by December 2002, we had our first outing, ‘a year after Cicero Symposium” held inside House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan, where Senator Ayo Fasanmi led Alliance for Democracy (AD), Southwest, did presentation of our Insight Magazine, maiden edition, having editorial Board Members across various Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria, compiling the achievements of the 6 AD Governors plus personalities’ interviews across the States.
Today, I am a Canada based while others are living in different parts of the World but the Secretariat in Nigeria has been making us proud by its regular broadcast, which most of us do forward to other Platforms. This is the legacy left behind by departed soul, Pillar behind our chain of successes. adieu! – Dayo Olorunnisola of Red Cross Office then, OAU, Ile – Ife, now in Canada, as Group’s Ambassador.
