Nigeria’s apex court, the Supreme Court has set date to commence hearing the appeal by the Federal Government on the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

It set Thursday, October 5, 2023 as the date, Mr Ifeanyi Ejiofor, one of the lawyers in the legal team of the IPOB leader disclosed this on Saturday.

It would be recalled that, on the 13th of October 2022, the Court of Appeal, Abuja Judicial Division, delivered a Judgment in an appeal filed by Kanu’s lead Counsel, Prof Mike Ozekhome, (SAN) challenging part of the Federal High Court’s ruling, which had retained seven counts out of the original 15-count charge against Kanu, after striking out eight out of the 15-count charge.

The learned Justices of the Court of Appeal, in allowing Kanu’s appeal filed by Ozekhome, directed the Federal Government to immediately release the IPOB leader unconditionally.

The appellate court in the judgement, prohibited the Federal Government from further detaining Kanu, or prosecuting him on any indictment or charge before any court in Nigeria.

Ejiofor said on the 5th of October, 2023, Prof. Ozekhome, Kanu’s lead Counsel will be exchanging legal fireworks on behalf of Kanu, in urging the Supreme Court to dismiss, in its entirety the frivolous appeal filed by the Federal Government against the judgement of the Court of Appeal; and to further set aside the ruling of the Court of Appeal staying the execution of its earlier judgment.

“We are very firm, and committed to our solemn belief that the wheels of justice, though grinds slowly, but grinds exceedingly fine and towards the attainment of justice at the end of the day.

“Justice shall prevail, by the grace of God. And the hour is here”, Ejiofor stated.
