Northern youths under the aegis of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) have cautioned political actors over alleged clandestine efforts of undermine democracy in Nigeria.
The president-general of the AYCF, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, in a statement, noted that it is disheartening to witness a group of individuals attempting to sow seeds of discord among leaders for their own selfish political gains.
He decried what he decribed as the continuous attempts of certain northern politicians to drive a wedge in the relationship between President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, noting that corrupt politicians are uncomfortable with the support and promotion Matawalle provides to Tinubu’s interests in the North.
According to Shettima, Matawalle is targeted for his resilience against the recent rumours of instigation of the Military to undermine democracy.
He said the Arewa group stands firm in its commitment to preserving the democratic values of the nation and ensuring that such manipulative tactics do not hinder the democratic process.
Alhaji Shettima then urged all Nigerians to remain vigilant against any attempt by corrupt politicians to subvert democracy and called on law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute those who seek to undermine Nigeria’s democratic system.
He further said, the forum remains committed to supporting leaders who prioritise Nigeria’s development over personal gain and will continue to advocate for policies that benefit all Nigerians.
