A Civil Society Organization, Electoral Integrity and Good Governance Initiative, has appealed to the Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria handling the Kogi State Governorship election appeal to ensure a thorough and fair review of the case.
The group’s spokesperson, Prince Kolawole Abiodun, expressed concerns over the inconsistencies in the Kogi State Governorship case, particularly in comparison to the Bayelsa State case.
The group noted that the Kogi State Social Democratic Party (SDP) versus All Progressives Congress (APC) case at the election petition tribunal was dismissed despite compelling BVAS evidence showing discrepancies between accredited voters and final results.
In contrast, the Bayelsa APC versus PDP case saw the tribunal and Appeal Court affirming judgment in favour of the PDP due to missing BVAS evidence.
The statement highlights the importance of BVAS in ensuring transparency and accountability in the electoral process, as introduced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The group expresses confidence in the Supreme Court’s ability to deliver impartial and well-reasoned judgments, urging them to maintain public confidence in their ability to stand by justice.
