In a fiery and detailed response to recent social media criticism, Mannir Shehu Wurma, former chairman of Kurfi Local Government Area in Katsina State, has firmly rejected claims that the state’s leaders are feasting while the people suffer. Wurma issued the statement under the bold title “Katsina Developed While They Whimper,” directly addressing an article that has stirred online debate titled “Katsina Bleeds While Its Leaders Feast!”
“This article presents a classic case of opinion imbalance,” Wurma writes, criticizing the “sensationalist” tone and the deliberate use of emotionally loaded terms to provoke public outrage. According to him, the attempt to paint Governor Mallam Dikko Umaru Radda’s administration as neglectful in the face of hardship is not only baseless but also politically motivated.
“Responding to such a baseless diatribe does not require listing the many laudable achievements of this administration in just two years,” Wurma asserts, noting that “even the most vocal critics of Governor Mallam Dikko Umaru Radda are fully aware that his administration has not only prioritized the security of lives and properties, but has also spearheaded infrastructural development across the length and breadth of Katsina State—surpassing expectations in many sectors.”
Wurma accuses the authors of the article of mischief, saying, “Mischief-makers are often the most unreasonable people you can engage in any form of rational argument—they neither yield to superior logic nor acknowledge verifiable facts.”
He questions the logic behind the criticism tied to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent visit to Katsina, calling it a “strategic opportunity to share in our challenges and work toward collective solutions.” Wurma emphasizes that the president’s visit was a recognition of Katsina’s importance on the national agenda, stating, “Indeed, Katsina is the first state the president officially visited since assuming office—a strong indication of its importance.”
He further argues that the presidential visit resulted in meaningful progress for the state, noting, “Did the authors of the article care to acknowledge that, as a result of that visit, Katsina State was able to formally present some long-neglected grievances and secure presidential commitment on critical development projects?”
Wurma takes particular issue with the article’s insinuation that Governor Radda was inattentive to state matters during his daughter’s recent wedding ceremony. He dismisses this line of attack as “sheer pettiness,” stating, “Are we now to assume that a governor must not carry out familial responsibilities because he holds public office? Was the ceremony extravagant by any objective standard? Certainly not.”
Highlighting the administration’s achievements, Wurma lists “massive development projects reclaiming and revitalizing urban infrastructure, revolutionizing agriculture and livestock production, countless youth empowerment programs, small and medium-scale business initiatives, and educational reforms.” He challenges critics to fairly acknowledge these advances, asserting, “Even those who oppose the governor on political grounds must, when honest, acknowledge the visible progress under his leadership.”
In his concluding remarks, Wurma unapologetically stands by his defense of the administration, declaring, “Katsina is not bleeding while its leaders feast. Instead, Katsina is developing—steadily, surely—while its detractors whimper.”
Mannir Shehu Wurma, added a sharp and defiant voice to the ongoing debate about governance and progress in Katsina State, signaling a determination among the state’s political leaders to push back against what they view as unfair and politically motivated criticisms.
