There is a hackneyed account of a certain serial killer who was sentenced to death by hanging, by a judge. On D-Day when he was to be executed, he was informed that the judge had altered his decision and decided that the convict should rather die by a lethal snake poison.
The convict was then informed that he will be bounded on a couch and blindfolded, while a lethal snake will be brought into the room to bite him once, and he will die from the snake venom. He was indeed blindfolded and taken into the room-of-no-return, on a couch. But no snake was taken into the room.
A tiny pin was rather used to pierce the skin on one of his feet just once, he felt a little sharp pain and he was told that he had just been bitten by the snake. He believed what he was told and was left under close monitoring. Because he believed, he deteriorated and died slowly, thinking he was indeed bitten by a poisonous snake even when it was a lie.
Once, I had the chance to listen to Dr. Mike Murdock, an American televangelist and pastor of The Wisdom Center Ministry in Haltom City, Texas. He made reference to a mind power social experiment that was conducted amongst high school athletes. He mentioned that out of 30 athletes, 9 of them were lied to, that there was a sudden discovery of a certain viral infection that has affected their limbs over time, and they will be paralyzed in a few weeks.
Lo and behold, six of them actually thought it to be true and became ill with loins related complications after a short period and were hospitalized. But in actual sense, there was absolutely nothing wrong with them. Their brains were only trusting the fake information they had been given. They were later informed that, whatever earlier diagnosis they gave was a lie and a mistake. According to Murdock, all the six got back on their feet without taking any medication other than white candies that were “falsely” packaged as the cure.
While I still attended Church, I attended a minister’s conference where we were lectured on how to apply and effectively utilize the “placebo effect” during miracle sessions in Church programs. Please go check what placebo effect means or also check the meaning of hypnotism. The two do not mean the same thing though. You will realize that the power your mind has over you is limitless. You will realize how easily other external forces can take a toll on your body and inner self, if you let them.
In like manner, if in your consciousness and in your mind, you doubt the efficacy of orthodox or trado-medicine, there is every possibility that none will work within your body system. That is how powerful the grip of the mind is on all of us. Don’t hand it over to someone else. Don’t hand such a powerful instrument to third parties.
Less than 5 percent of the world’s 8 billion human beings, do their thinking for themselves. Most of the people in the world have outsourced the central processing unit of their thinking faculty, to different pint-head caesars in their lives, professions and faiths. They have stalled their congenital proclivity to think in shylocks who will never let them free. At best, we know how to WORRY a lot about life’s vicissitudes, yet we seldom THINK about them.
Our thoughts, like every other form of energy, have the potential to act or manifest on our bodies either adversely or beneficially. We have to guide them along desirable paths. We have to channel them in an intentional trajectory that should snake to a noble end.
When last did you use your active mind as compared to worrying?
Yours sincerely,
Citizen Agba Jalingo.
