The Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership (AYAGL) has declared total solidarity with the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abba Aliyu, praising what it described as an impactful and unprecedented expansion of rural electrification projects across Northern Nigeria and the country at large.
In a World Press Statement issued Tuesday in Abuja and signed by its President, Amb. Abdul Danbature, the Assembly said its position followed โextensive consultations with respected Northern and Progressive elders, youth leaders, and critical stakeholders across the region.โ
The group stated: โFollowing our consultations, we have collectively resolved to stand firmly in solidarity with the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Abba Aliyu, in his efforts toward promoting peace, progress, and sustainable energy development across Northern Nigeria and the country at large.โ
AYAGL commended Aliyuโs leadership style, describing it as transparent and results-oriented. According to the statement, โWithin the short period that he has piloted the affairs of the Agency, the MD has demonstrated uncommon commitment, transparency, and a results-driven leadership style that has accelerated rural electrification projects across Nigeria.โ
The Assembly emphasized that the REA under Aliyu has significantly widened access to electricity, particularly through renewable energy initiatives targeting underserved communities. It noted that these interventions have not only delivered power supply but also unlocked economic opportunities.
โHis administration has significantly expanded access to electricity through renewable energy initiatives, bringing light and economic opportunities to many previously underserved communities,โ the statement read.
Highlighting the scope of implementation, AYAGL said electrification projects have been executed across all states in Northern Nigeria and extended nationwide. The group stressed that the impact has gone beyond households to include critical public institutions.
โUnder his leadership, the Agency has successfully implemented electrification projects across all states in Northern Nigeria and indeed across the country. These efforts have extended beyond communities to critical public institutions, including hospitals, universities, and other essential facilities, thereby improving healthcare delivery, education, and economic productivity,โ it stated.
The Assembly further claimed that available records and stakeholder observations point to a historic milestone under Aliyuโs stewardship.
โNotably, available records and stakeholder observations indicate that he is the first head of the Agency to have driven such widespread project implementation across every state in Northern Nigeria while also expanding impact nationwide. This remarkable milestone deserves recognition and continued support,โ the statement declared.
AYAGL aligned the Agencyโs performance with the policy direction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that the achievements resonate strongly with the administrationโs Renewed Hope Agenda.
โThese achievements align strongly with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in the area of energy access, economic inclusion, and national development,โ it said.
Calling for broader national backing, the youth body urged stakeholders across the country to support ongoing rural electrification efforts.
โAs a youth-driven movement committed to good governance and national progress, we therefore call on Northern Nigerian youths and Nigerian youths across all regions, Civil society organizations, Community leaders and stakeholders, to rally behind the ongoing efforts to expand rural electrification and sustainable energy solutions in Nigeria.โ
The statement underscored the centrality of electricity to economic transformation, adding: โEnergy access remains a critical driver of economic growth and social development, and supporting leaders who are delivering measurable results is essential for national progress.โ
The Assembly also disclosed that it was acting in concert with a coalition of affiliate organizations.
โFurthermore, the Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership, together with over 21 collaborative affiliate youth and civil society organizations, hereby reiterates our unwavering support for the leadership of the Rural Electrification Agency and encourages the Managing Director to remain focused, committed, and courageous in delivering the energy gains envisioned under the Renewed Hope agenda.โ
Encouraging sustained momentum, AYAGL urged Aliyu to deepen electrification of rural communities and strategic institutions.
โWe urge him to continue strengthening initiatives that bring electricity to rural communities, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and businesses across Nigeria.โ
Concluding on a note of unity and national purpose, the Assembly stressed the need for collective responsibility.
โNigeriaโs future depends on leaders who deliver impact, and we encourage all stakeholders to prioritize unity, constructive engagement, and national development. Together, we can light up Nigeria and empower our people.โ
